What's the source for people being judged by the gods in Hell? Also, is Hell a hellish place as described by Snorri or do the sources more lean to it being akin to live in Midgard, but then with dead ancestors?

I don't know if it is due to autogenerated closed captioning, but they didn't go to Hell, but to Hel; Hell is the Christian version of eternal damnation, but Hel is a continuation of life somewhere else.

You say that those slain in battle go to Odin, but does not Freya get first pick of half the slain for Folkvangr, or have I misunderstood something?
