A lizard giving birth instead of laying eggs

This is the Surinam toad. In one of the strangest birth methods in the animal kingdom, babies emerge from a cluster of tiny holes on their mother’s back.

Some lizards can switch between laying eggs and giving live birth depending on environmental conditions. This rare ability, called facultative viviparity, has been documented in a few species like the three-toed skink. Even more incredible: Scientists have observed one individual of this species lay eggs in one season and give birth to live young the next the same mother, two different reproductive strategies. This makes it one of the only known vertebrates capable of transitioning between oviparity and viviparity in real time, a phenomenon so unusual that biologists consider it a living snapshot of evolution in action.

Imagine just plopping out on a leaf and that’s how it all starts like a little fairy

We love Jackson’s!

He hits the leaf, rips off the wrapper, and is immediately ready to go to work. Human babies are useless for years. This guy is 4 seconds old and already has better grip strength than I do. He didn't cry or ask for a blanket; he just checked his footing and started hunting.

They are ready from the start.
