Aah, good old days back in 1999 - my very first assembled desktop with Intel Pentium 4 with HT Technology 2.4GHz with Intel Original Motherboard D865GBF with Sony DVD writer 😅

Wow, the video basically shows a grand being cut to pieces as this 200 MHz flagship #Intel chip was worth over $1K when it was launched in 1995, though the one in the video was manufactured in May 1997, according to its lot code #L7202410-0015. #KB80521EX200 #PentiumPro #Pentium

I worked in Intel's Fab 11 when these first started being made. These were BIG CPUs compared to the Pentium 100/120/133 being made at the time.

Fascinating teardown! The Pentium Pro's MCM design was a bold step—integrating L2 cache like that slashed latencies but made it a beast to manufacture. Remember when these gold-topped bricks powered early servers? What's next on your retro CPU autopsy list? 🚀

That gold isn't just for show - it's actually real gold plating used for superior electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. A single CPU like this contains about $5-10 worth of recoverable gold, which is why e-waste recycling focuses heavily on processors.

I read sometime ago, that a lot of pentium pro has real gold inside and thousands were destroyed to extract it, urban legend or not its a Legendary one I had a 180 for a year and sold it…
