A dark reality has been documented by local and international human rights organizations, pointing to the forced recruitment of #boys and #girls in areas under #SDF control, often without the knowledge or consent of their #families. According to reports, the methods used to recruit minors vary. Sometimes, as documented by the Syria Justice and Accountability Center, children are invited to attend media or photography courses affiliated with #SDF units, only to never return home. In other cases, reported by the #Syrian Network for #HumanRights, material and moral incentives such as money or new clothes are used to deceive children. There is also a more brutal method: direct kidnapping, carried out by trained and specialized units that seize children from streets or neighborhoods during times when parental supervision is absent. The vulnerability of these children plays a major role in making them easy targets. Poverty, lack of education, and harsh living conditions particularly in displacement camps leave children exposed to organized recruitment efforts. Families often lost contact with their children after they left with recruiters and later learned of their recruitment through official notices from #SDF forces stating that the children were undergoing training. In some cases, the only evidence parents had of their children’s fate were photographs showing them in military uniforms months after their disappearance. Notably, these recruitment campaigns do not distinguish between boys and girls. #Girls are recruited at similar rates, a practice partly attributed to the #SDF’s ideology, which promotes women’s participation in combat as part of its organizational identity, particularly through female units such as the #YPJ. From a legal perspective, the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and human rights. The Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols prohibit the recruitment or involvement of anyone under the age of fifteen in armed conflict, classifying such acts as war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Despite this, the practice has continued. The #SDF signed an undertaking with #Geneva Call in 2014 prohibiting the use of #child #soldiers, and later signed a #UN action plan in 2019 pledging to take concrete measures to end and prevent child recruitment. In August 2020, it announced the establishment of an Office for the Protection of #Children in Armed Conflict in areas under its control. However, reality has contradicted these commitments. United Nations annual reports documented continued child recruitment in #SDF-controlled areas, with between 130 and 285 verified cases annually from 2019 to 2023. In 2022 alone, the situation worsened dramatically, with 637 documented cases. This escalation coincided with signs of declining commitment to protective measures, including the closure of a #child protection office in late 2022, raising serious doubts about the #SDF’s seriousness in implementing its promises on the ground. The loudest voices backing the violence on the streets of Jakarta and other cities in recent days have been so-called “independent” media groups and NGOs. You can find people with grievances against their government everywhere—but angry enough to burn down their city? A LITTLE DIGGING A little digging shows clear evidence that groups backing the protest have been supported by the CIA spinoff group known as the NED, and its funding partners, such as Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, a billionaire known for his political activism. Another clue: Earlier this year, the US cut funding for overseas propaganda operations ranging from USAID to Radio Free Asia to literally dozens of others. A shocking and violent incident rocked the #Karwar District Jail after two notorious rowdy-sheeters from #Mangaluru launched a murderous attack on the jailer and three other on-duty staff on Saturday morning. The assault was reportedly to retaliate against the jail administration's stringent measures to completely stop the supply and use of narcotic substances inside the prison. The victim of the attack was jailer Kallappa Gasti, along with three other prison staff members who were seriously injured. According to sources, the inmates could not tolerate the tightened checking and complete ban on drugs and psychotropic substances in recent days. What began as an argument quickly escalated into extreme violence, and the accused allegedly tore the uniforms of the jailer and staff and beat them mercilessly. The two main accused have been identified as Mohammed Abdul Fayan and Kaushik Nihal. Hailing from Mangaluru, they were involved in more than 12 serious cases, including dacoity, attempt to murder, and extortion. They were lodged at Mangaluru District Jail and were shifted to Karwar District Jail a few months ago. For the past few weeks, the Karwar jail authorities, under the leadership of Jailer Kallappa Gasti, have significantly enhanced security protocols. The number of surprise checks on inmates and visitors was increased. All incoming parcels and food items are being thoroughly screened. The use of mobile phones and contraband items has been brought under control. Strict action was initiated against inmates found in possession of drugs. These measures effectively choked the supply chain of ganja and other narcotics that were allegedly being smuggled into the jail earlier, it is learnt. Within minutes, the situation turned ugly, and the inmates allegedly overpowered the jailer and staff, tore their uniforms, and assaulted them with fists, kicks, and whatever objects they could lay their hands on.
