Awareness matters because the surprise itself can delay people speaking up.

Five years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a man, that’s something you never expect to hear. I chose to have my treatment in China, and today I’m thankfully cancer free. In this video, I return for my regular follow-up at one of China’s leading cancer hospitals. From advanced diagnostics to proton therapy, I take you behind the scenes to see how modern technology is helping doctors detect cancer earlier and give patients the best possible care. I also want to raise awareness of something many people still don’t realise… Men get breast cancer too. For most women, the benefits of taking body identical HRT far outweigh any risks. Yet many are reluctant to take it and many doctors are also reluctant to prescribe it. This is usually due to a false belief that HRT is too risky and causes breast cancer. I am sharing with you this paper that has recently been published looking at oestrogen-only HRT and breast cancer incidence. The paper is a meta-analysis, which is a type of statistical analysis where researchers review, combine, and analyse multiple studies together. In this paper, researchers have looked at randomised studies involving oestrogen and breast cancer incidence and put them together to see what the results show. The conclusion is clear: women who take oestrogen-only HRT have a LOWER future risk of developing breast cancer. We’ve known for several years that women who take oestrogen have a lower future incidence of breast cancer as well as other cancers and other conditions. This paper is very reassuring, and it’s worth remembering that any risk of breast cancer has been shown using oestrogen with a combination of a synthetic progestogen, not the body-identical type progesterone healthcare professionals usually prescribe.
