She's both right and wrong . Religion gets far too much credit for taming men. What governed the behaviour of men and women IS the fact sex produces children. If everybody-both men and women went around hundreds of years ago just shagging everyone in sight , there would be paternal uncertainty. A man does not tend to like the prospect of raising a child that isn't his and if there's doubt won't commit to it . This is why females had to be selective, to avoid being abandoned and left to raise a child on her own. Also, if even one man is going around impregnating multiple women , and each woman is sexually exclusive to him , that is a drain on his resources. He would have to support each of them , make time for all of them and no doubt it would lead to a headache and accusation of him not doing enough and pulling his weight. In other words , YES it is hardwired into men to mate with multiple women, but nature itself counter balances the desire to do so in a multitude of ways. Sex is pleasurable, child birth painful . Raising children from birth to adulthood is both a joy , hard , time consuming and an expense. Now today......😄 humans over come nature. How ? Contraception. The natural pressures that encouraged humans to pair bond aren't technically there anymore. The barrier standing between the traditional nuclear family and anything else going is simply guilt and shame-which is a product of the monogamous value system . Jealousy isn't hard wired . Under monogamy it is triggered in you because you fear being abandoned or loosing the one your're with to a rival. Its what triggers feelings of disgust. Under promiscuity or some other poly arrangement, these emotions are less likely to be triggered in a mass contraceptive environment unless you have low self esteem. The impact of insurance against pregnancy has had massive knock on effects. Since the late 60s the birth rate has gone into continuous decline, u have insurance to cheat whereby a partner now has to discover other clues that their spouse has been unfaithful. Divorce rates sky rocket and then begin to slow and flatten as less people get married. Why do less ppl get married and have kids? Contraception, focus on career , low expectation that the family unit will even be intact before the child reaches adulthood . If children grow up in households with a single parent or separated parents, possibly raised by step parents; there is surely less belief that love & marriage is for life -until you die . Monogamy today has been reduced to one person at a time. It further gives rise to all manor of alternative sexual lifestyles. Its how LGBTQ comes about . Still doubtful? Think where birth rates are highest and lowest in the world . Where child mortality rates are highest & lowest and then have a gaze at this .
