Opposition leaders are calling on Sir Keir Starmer to resign as Prime Minister, after it was revealed Lord Mandelson failed security vetting before he became Ambassador to the US. The Prime Minister repeatedly told MPs and reporters that the process had been followed - before it became clear last night that officials actually overruled that process to appoint Mandelson. We ask Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones when he knew that Mandelson had failed the vetting.

The top civil servant at the Cabinet Office, Cat Little, has been giving evidence before MPs about the appointment of Peter Mandelson as US ambassador. After she discovered that vetting officials had recommended Lord Mandelson should not get security clearance, she informed Keir Starmer, who then sacked the head of the Foreign Office for not disclosing the information. She was asked why it took her nearly three weeks to tell the Prime Minister about the failed vetting.
