🇱🇻 Latvia has completed construction of a fence along its border with Russia In total, around 280 kilometers of fencing have been built along the Latvian–Russian border, creating a continuous barrier in areas where this was technically feasible. The project cost approximately €146 million. The border is still being equipped with surveillance cameras and other technical systems, while patrol roads, bridges, and additional engineering infrastructure are under construction. Full completion of the works is planned by the end of 2026. Earlier, Latvia had already completed 145 kilometers of fencing along its border with Belarus.

🇷🇺⚔️🇺🇦 Ukraine has been launching long-range drones from concealed container launchers mounted inside civilian trucks. Russia's 50th "Varyag" Brigade released footage destroying one such system. Ukraine formalized this tactic in 2023, when the first "Yanvar" drones were launched from container units hidden in civilian trucks. Today's FP-1 and FP-2 strikes on St. Petersburg, timed to coincide with SPIEF and entering Russian airspace from the Baltics, were launched using exactly these systems. This is why Russian forces have been actively hitting truck depots in Ukrainian border regions. A civilian truck crossing a border raises no flags. It parks. It waits. Then it fires. Given that today's drones transited the Baltics, the question of whether such systems are already positioned inside Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania is not hypothetical.

The Latvian government approved restrictions covering a wide range of Russian and Belarusian goods, including books, newspapers and other printed materials, clothing and finished textile products, footwear, headwear, toys, games and sports equipment. Crucially, the ban will also apply when goods originating in Russia or Belarus enter Latvia through third countries, closing a potential route for circumventing the restrictions. Food and beverages are not included in this particular blacklist. Riga says the measures have three objectives: protecting Latvia’s national-security interests, further reducing export revenues flowing to Russia and Belarus, and restricting the entry of Russian propaganda materials into the country. Latvia has already dramatically reduced its dependence on trade with the two states: the value of imports fell by 91% between 2022 and 2025, from €2.129 billion to €193 million. The direction of Latvian policy is becoming rather difficult for Moscow to misread, though humans have achieved greater feats of selective comprehension.
