Good luck. You have shown enormous potential to play at higher levels. I expect you’ll end up in the top tier with hard work and dedication.

Suspected it was probably coming with the amount of CB we were bringing in, Sam has been absolutely top drawer for us and deserves everybit of success he gets, relentless 1 v 1, Quick, strong, unreal work rate. “Started at the Gills” we hope to all say as your career progresses.

Good luck galey. Disappointing if he ends up sitting on Barnsley’s bench next season when he’s just signed a two year contract and was destined to be our skipper and probably end up somewhere a lot better and more glamorous than Barnsley!

Three things I would say here. 1. Sam is a long way from being a finished article but he is not at the same standard of some of others similar age, he needed I think one more season. 2. I don’t think this year he would have played regular for us I think the overhaul GW has done was because we simply let too many goals in and the defence pass ratio was poor, and goal ratio and assists as well well down on a normal GW team. 3. So I think the Gills have cashed in on a player with potential but not for the style of play this year. I suspect he will play some games at Barnsley but he maybe a bench warmer or be loaned out if he does not hit the ground running fast, it’s a huge jump for him and honestly I don’t think he is ready. Lovely young man, wish him well but I think good bit of business by the club. Well done Gills

Personally think he has moved to early, another good season and he’s going to the championship. Barnsley of a few seasons ago championship top end of league 1 id understand, but all I’ve seen from them is they are on a downward spiral of late, he will smash it class act Sam

Obviously beyond depressing, but he was contracted til 2028, easy 6 figure sum, id assume 350k
