We had a frozen conflict in the east of Ukraine for years after Russia’s occupation of Crimea in 2014. We tried to speak with Russia. But we heard nothing but lies from them. No truth. We can’t trust them. They just want to destroy and kill all of us. In 2022 we saw them attack us again. And this wasn’t just war, but terrorism. Clear terrorism. They killed not only the army, but people. They committed horrible atrocities. Russia must leave our territory. After that the world can switch to diplomacy. And our Peace Formula provides a good opportunity for that. What is the alternative? To give Putin the possibility to kill all of us? To destroy our nation and all that we have? This is not only a matter of Ukraine. This is a matter of security in Europe. The matter of NATO unity. Because after Ukraine, Russia will attack NATO countries. Some people say the alternative is to give Putin what he wants and stop the war. What does that mean? Giving him 30 percent of our land? What to do with the people in the temporary occupied territories? Or with the thousands of people who have been killed by Putin and his army? Forget about them? No accountability? No tribunal? I know what to do. We have to be strong. I believe that European countries and the United States believe in our power, our humanity, our attitude toward people and democracy. Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking before thousands of Iranians and Iranian-Americans at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in front of the Capitol.🇺🇸 I stood there to be the voice of students living in darkness under a total internet blackout. We will not let their voices be silenced. Thanks to the incredible organizers, especially Salar Gholami, for bringing us together and giving us the chance to be a voice for the voiceless 🇮🇷 Here was my speech: First, thank you America for giving us a voice while the regime in Iran has been trying to silence our voices for the past 47 years. I stand before you today as a small member of the Iranian Community I am one of thousands of students from Aryamehr University who should have been building our future in our own homeland, but were pushed out by a system that fears educated, free-thinking minds. I left Iran because an oppressive regime made it impossible to live there with dignity, freedom, and hope. I was one of the lucky ones to get a chance to live in the free world and experience real freedom in the United States. But today, I speak for the students sitting in darkness under a total internet blackout, cut off from the world as the regime tries to silence them. I speak for those who have been jailed, beaten, and threatened. For those who, even with their lives on the line, still choose to stand up. They told us: If you don’t like it, leave. So many of us did. And now, across the world, we have become their nightmare. They shut down the internet to isolate our people. They censor, surveil, and punish to keep the truth hidden. But they cannot silence millions of Iranians beyond their borders. For 47 years, this regime has tried to erase our identity. To suppress our voices. The antisemitism that was festering under the surface for decades, has exploded. And for those of us who stand against it, we are not the popular kids. The so called “cool kids” are wearing a keffiyeh, calling for an intifada and demanding a Palestine between the river and the sea even if they can’t tell you which river or which sea. Running this page has opened my eyes to how many racists who hate white people we have living amongst us. It’s disgusting. I see on a daily basis, people in the comments banging on about slavery and colonialism. They don’t realise the luckiest day of their lives was being born in a western democracy. They have lived a life of privilege but like to be a victim. They are angry with white people moving into black countries hundreds of years ago. But perfectly fine with black people moving to white countries in the present day. They call it immigration when it’s them. They are in support of people being able to live wherever they want. Just not when it’s white people. That’s colonialism and it’s evil. They don’t realise they are everything that they hate the colonisers for. They take all the benefits of being here. But still hate us for it. They use history and things that didn’t happen to them as a scapegoat to be openly hateful towards us. In their own mind it justifies their racism so they can still hold the self righteous belief they are a good person. But when I see people like this. It restores my faith in immigration. It’s good to know that this can sometimes be the outcome. Not everyone is selfish and only care about their own race. There are plenty of people who care about us too. Plenty of people see it for what it is and stand by our side and I have nothing but respect for them. I wish everyone was like that. Thank you to this man for speaking out for us and showing common sense. Because when we say this, they call is far right racists and fascists. But in reality we are only human just like anyone else. I started to really think the way that they are treating me is not deserved. I'm speaking to nothing but my experience, to the way that I feel and to reality.
