I'm a Pediatric nurse clinical educator. When teaching assessments my first line is "If a primary caregiver says something is wrong, listen to them."

This do happen in real life. They will take their degree to damn hard and ignore human instincts.

I told the nurses & doctors at a nursing facility I thought my mom had an infection.Didn’t believe me.High BS for 2 weeks, 600 BS at highest, wet cough, sweating.I called the police.Had my concern documented. Then sent her to ER. ER found aspirated pneumonia in 30 minutes🤬

My now 19 year old had KD as a little girl. Very similar story, first was dxed w Scarlet Fever but hog fevers and rash continued. Fortunately, a friends daughter had had KD a few years earlier so I knew to mention it when we took her to the children’s ER. No heart damage.

they have no concept of keeping someone sick for observation? they are in such a rush to send people home. in japan the average hospital stay is 25 days. they verify you are healed before you go home. in america its 2.5.

This is also why so many women die from heart attacks. The medical community says they’re “hysterical.” So many women’s concerns for even their own health are ignored

My daughter went through the same thing with her toddler son , high fever and nothing touched it , finally took him to RVH , and was going through the same thing. Another visiting Dr heard her and said she would test for Kawasaki’s, he would need to show 10 symptoms that match

Happened to my kiddo... macrophage activation syndrome with SJIA. Shes in remission now. This is so real and so terrifying.

Always trust the primary caregiver of a child when they believe something serious is evolving.

it must be so confusing to be the mom like, she probably happy that she is right that there is something wrong with him and the doctors are wrong but also sad and worry that the kid really is sick :(

ChatGPT would've given a list of differential diagnoses within five minutes of the mom starting to rant about the symptoms. Brains of most human doctors who've graduated med school simply don't have the capacity to take in and process all the input coming from the mother.

It’s more boring than this in real life and they would’ve checked for it already

OK guys don't worry though literally every children's hospital is gonna work up a kid very thoroughly if the kid has even 2 of the criteria for Kawasaki (rash, temp >104 >5 days, conjunctivitis, etc). It's drilled into even us med students that Kawasaki is a "can't miss" dx

The last six years has put us in a new timeline ! Chronic and complex disease with opportunistic disease as the icing on the cake all followed to prior viral infections that knocked the shit out of your immune system!!

This brought me to tears. I went through the same thing with my 3 year old. Dismissed twice by same hospital in two days. Changed hospital and my husband refused to leave. Was in quarantine for a week, before they found out the problem...as they were discharging him.
