Our animal shelters are overcrowded, and ACC has now announced they can’t take in any more surrenders. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable. We’re in a full-blown crisis, and it’s going to take real solutions—not silence—from the city. That’s why I introduced a bill to establish pet food pantries across NYC. Families who are struggling shouldn’t be forced to surrender a beloved furry family member just because they’ve hit hard times. A little help can go a long way in keeping pets in loving homes where they belong. The city must get more involved—and fast. And if you’re able, please visit an ACC shelter and adopt or foster a pet. This is why adopting a rescue dog matters. Every dog in a shelter is waiting for their person — or their family — to choose them. They’ve often been through more than we can imagine, yet they still have so much love left to give. When you adopt, you’re not just getting a pet. You’re giving a second chance, a safe place, and the kind of loyalty that only a rescued heart can offer. Adopt don’t shop. The shelters are full of dogs just like these — ready to be part of your family photos, your couch cuddles, and your everyday adventures. (This is most certainly true here in Texas!)
