Some American cities are seeing a growing trend of churches being purchased by local Muslim communities and converted into mosques. The 2020 American Mosque Survey counts 2,769 mosques in the country, a jump of more than thirty percent in ten years. Most are converted buildings, very often former churches, at a time when more than seven thousand churches have shut down or been sold since 2000.
