Today’s decision to elevate EU–Viet Nam relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is both historic and forward-looking. It reflects not only how far our relationship with the EU has come, but also our shared ambition for the future. My meetings with Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi underscored our unwavering commitment to the international rules-based order, to multilateralism, and to working for peace and stability in uncertain times. Together, the European Union and Viet Nam will continue to advance peace and prosperity, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.

Friday Sept 1, 2023: I had the distinguished honour to present my credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. António Guterres, as the new Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the UN. As the Amb. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of H.E. Barram I conveyed his warm greetings and that of the people of Sierra Leone to the UNSG, and the shared inspiration that the excellent relations between Sierra Leone and the UN will be maintained and strengthened. H.E. the UN Secretary-General responded by stating that “Sierra Leone is a very important and reliable partner of the United Nations, very committed to multilateralism and a symbol in the African continent of not only democratic values but also strong commitment to our common objectives - peace and security, sustainable development, climate action and human rights”. Sierra Leone and the United Nations share an enduring relationship. A partnership that has seen the consolidation of peace, democratic governance, and the pursuit of sustainable development in Sierra Leone; and an active principled voice at the United Nations as it carries out its important mandate of maintaining international peace and security, promoting, and protecting fundamental human rights and cooperating to achieve sustainable development.

At the India–Seychelles Joint Press Meet, PM Narendra Modi said that while Seychelles is often seen as a group of islands on the map, India views it as a partnership of far greater significance. He highlighted opportunities for cooperation in fisheries, marine science, coastal management, renewable energy, and sustainable tourism to strengthen shared development. He noted that island nations and the Global South face the harshest impact of climate change despite contributing the least, calling for fairness and equity in global climate action. He also highlighted India’s progress in clean energy, sustainable living, and global climate partnerships over the past decade, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Seychelles and supporting Small Island Developing States in building a resilient future. #PMModiInSeychelles
