When chaos erupted inside Flydubai Flight FZ1073, passenger Yaniv Hayoun entered the cockpit and helped pull the attacking co-pilot away from the controls. He found Indian Captain Smit Machchhar injured near the cockpit door, after the captain had managed to unlock it before collapsing. Hayoun says he briefly pulled the aircraft’s controls back to help level the plane. An off-duty pilot then took control, and the aircraft was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely. After returning to Israel, Hayoun met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who hugged him and called him a hero. Hayoun even joked that he knew what to do because he watches Air Crash Investigation. #flydubai #telaviv #Israel #pilot #dubai #netanyahu #smitmachchhar

Anand Ranganathan weighs in on the Left-Liberal narrative on Indian Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar, whose actions during the FZ1073 cockpit emergency have been widely credited with helping save 174 passengers. Despite being seriously injured, Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, allowing others to intervene and avert a disaster. Ranganathan argues that the captain has become an “inconvenient hero” for some critics because of his identity. “If he was not Smit… if he was Smith or Salim, everything would have been completely different,” he claims, accusing sections of the Indian commentariat of applying ideological double standards. Speaking to India Today about the Flydubai cockpit attack, US political commentator Laura Loomer contrasted the actions of the Indian captain and the Omani co-pilot, framing them through their respective religious identities. Loomer praised Captain Smit Machchhar for continuing to fight to protect passengers despite being seriously injured. Her comments came as authorities in Saudi Arabia and the UAE investigate the cockpit assault. Saudi Arabia’s preliminary probe found that the captain was assaulted by his co-pilot, while the UAE is investigating whether the incident involved terrorist activity or prior planning. #Flydubai #SmitMachchhar #LauraLoomer #IndiaToday #AviationNews #FlydubaiIncident

Brave Indian Captain Smit Machchhar🇮🇳, despite reportedly being stabbed by the Omani co-pilot and being seriously injured and covered in blood, managed to get the cockpit door opened, allowing passengers and crew to intervene. Off duty pilots onboard then reportedly helped take control of the aircraft and bring everyone to safety. Flydubai FZ1073 was carrying around 174 passengers, including 27 children, with most reportedly Israeli. During the incident, the aircraft plunged nearly 14,000 feet in less than a minute before eventually landing safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has described it as an attempted “jihadist terror attack”, although the exact motive remains under investigation. Saudi Arabia allowed the emergency landing, but reportedly refused Israel’s request to send Israeli military aircraft to collect its passengers. What happened inside that cockpit could have ended very differently. The courage shown by the Indian captain, crew, passengers and off duty pilots deserves recognition.

Here is what we know so far about Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Israel: 1- The plane was carrying Israelis. No reports say whether they were ordinary Israeli citizens or Israeli army personnel vacationing in the UAE. Israeli army personnel have previously posted about vacations in the UAE following their service in Gaza (photo 1) 2- The Flydubai pilot was an Indian Hindu named Smit Machchhar. Initial Hebrew media reports described him as Emirati citizen. 3- The co-pilot is Omani. He allegedly stabbed the pilot and attempted to dive and crash the plane with Israeli passengers, resulting in a fight between the 2 pilots. Smit eventually managed to unlock the cockpit door. 4- Passengers intervened and subdued the Omani co-pilot, while additional pilots aboard the flight took control of the plane and landed it safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. 5- The Israeli passengers received care from a Saudi crew after landing in Saudi Arabia. 6- The Emirati based Indian pilot, Smit Machchhar, was hospitalized after suffering stab wounds, but his condition has not been officially disclosed. The Omani co-pilot was arrested, and Saudi authorities are interrogating him. Mossad is reportedly involved in the broader investigation, but there is no confirmation that Mossad interrogated him in Saudi Arabia. (Hebrew media) 7- Israeli media initially reported that El Al was planning to evacuate the Israeli passengers from Saudi Arabia to Israel, which would have marked the first overt El Al flight between the 2 countries. However, reportedly Flydubai later sent a replacement aircraft that evacuated the Israeli passengers from Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, directly to Israel.
