I’m all for the City providing mass transit for Calgarians but at what cost? I asked if $6 Billion of tax payers money for 6 Miles of track or $625,000 per Meter is the best we can do? There has to be a more cost effective way to deliver transit to more people that need it.

Mayor Mamdani is asked what he plans to do about the homeless people currently living on NYC sidewalks in freezing weather. He says he’s only been in office for a few weeks and has no real plan. He only offers platitudes. The reporter notes that a homeless person told her he would go into supportive housing if it were offered. Instead of saying he’ll offer that freezing man supportive housing, Mamdani says there need to be more services that the homeless man wants and will use. All this shows Mamdani has no real plan. He’s literally letting homeless people freeze on the sidewalks right now. Why don’t all of his socialist supporters invite homeless people into their homes? The only available housing for severely mentally ill people seem shelters. They never last more a few days and back on the streets. This is inhumane. I hate seeing these kind of things every day. We don’t have a homeless crisis. We have an addiction and mental health crisis.

Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. Rae will streamline the city’s housing strategy, creating a Mayor’s Office of Housing For All to consolidate these different departments under one roof, with a public dashboard to track progress and hold us accountable.
