🇺🇸🇺🇦American combat engineer Ryan Hendrickson, who voluntarily came to Ukraine, was clearing a minefield containing PMN-4 anti-personnel mines and TM-62 anti-tank mines. He notes that in this case, the PMN-4 mines are used to cover the anti-tank mines. Such minefields are called combined fields, and they are much more difficult to clear than areas containing only one type of mine. If the field contained only anti-tank mines, engineers could remove them manually with relatively low risk. If it contained only anti-personnel mines, it could be cleared using specialized equipment. Ukrainian sappers have repeatedly encountered situations where they initially believed a field contained only anti-tank mines, but later discovered hidden anti-personnel mines as well.
