Ring world is unstable!

OR, a ring world could be made by an ancient race, known as Forerunners. Much smaller than an all encircling ring as you described. Some at 10km in diameter. While we’re talking science fiction of course.

A steel ring 93,000,000 miles in diamter spinning to produce 1 g experiences a tensile load of 2 x10^12 tons per sq in...give or take. So, any thoughts on what to make ringworld out of?

Habitable zones are transient. Most planets in the universe pass through them at some point. There's is no cosmic lottery, almost every planet gets a winning ticket. Ring worlds would still have a limited lifespan, but possibly millions of years.

And it's made of scrith.

Larry Niven has written several books about this..magnificent...Person puppeteers, Kzinti, humans, and so many others excellent characters..wonderfull SciFi with a very good scientific basis....highly recommended.

Unlike Dyson sphere, which is an object far too large to be stable, and maybe even created as such, a colossal ring, some 1000 km in width and 300 million km in diameter (if built around star similar to Sun) actually could've been created with technology so advanced that it seems like magic to us. Such construction, if built with materials much more durable than hardest steel known to us, would withstand lateral forces created by spinning, necessary to produce artificial gravity, and actualy be stable! Of course, some correction of spinning would be needed from time to time, which could be achieved with powerful matter/antimatter engines, put strategically into every thousand km. They would correct orbit as well, if needed, but I guess the mass of star it would orbit would be enough to keep the discworld in place, because the mass of disc shouldn't be greater than mass of Jupiter, I suppose. I know that centrifugal force of spinning disc is not the same as natural gravity of a planet, but unlike of such force in some much smaller object, like generational starship of diameter of some 30 km, there wouldn't be any lateral forces worth mentioning at a disc of diameter of 300 million km, so living beings on a discworld wouldn't feel any difference. And thanks to it colossal diameter, the spinning speed needed to create 1G force (we could even create lesser gravity, 0.8G would be perfect) would be quite small, and not unfathomable to create. The greatest challenge would be, except creating such an object, keeping the atmosphere from dissipating and escaping from the disc. Niven solved that elegantly by creating a ridge 10 km high which would keep all the atmosphere inside it, and that little what would escape over it's edge could be replaced. Strong magnetic field around the disc would not only protect it from solar wind and cosmic radiation, but also would help containing the atmosphere. The greatest challenge would be finding enough material to create such an object. I guess a whole gas giant planet similar in mass and composition of Jupiter would be needed to create such an unfathomable big object, but once created, with width of, let's say, 1000 km, it would have enough living space to acommodate a trillion inhabitants!
