This rocket is eating itself! Currently, most of the mass of space rockets is fuel. But what if we used not just... well, fuel... but also the rocket body itself as fuel? That's exactly what you're seeing now. In addition to burning liquid fuel inside the test rocket, the rocket's walls, made of a special plastic, are also burned, effectively adding a little more fuel. The idea itself isn't new, but the key is that in this case, researchers from the University of Glasgow managed to create a setup in which the body would remain stable, rather than warping, during combustion.
