A salary cap or floor is not the solution to more parity in MLB

Wrong. NFL is king cause every team has the same amount of money to spend to try and win. Even the NBA has more parity with their new cap guidelines, 7 different champions the last 7 years. Can’t wait to watch the Dodges ruin baseball even more.

Yes it is.

Why does every other sport have a cap but not baseball.

A salary floor is absolutely the solution to more parity lmao what

The NFL implemented a salary cap in 1994 and it’s been nothing but downhill for them since then…

You’re a fool. Salary cap and floor fix this. Stop with the deferred money. Make owners spend or don’t own a team.

I’m shocked the former player doesn’t think a cap/floor system is an answer..

Salary cap is absolutely the answer.

This debate is very simple. The MLB Playoffs has more parity than most sports. The regular season doesn’t. A salary cap isn’t the solution. A salary floor isn’t the solution. The solution is to get owners who actually care about their teams and reinvest in the team. That won’t happen. So the most feasible solution: implement a hard floor and soft cap (luxury tax) so that teams that are committed can spend, players get paid, and cheap owners are forced to pay up…

“We haven’t had repeat champs except for the team that spends more than any other team and that speaks to parity” alright brother.

No way the company based in New York thinks that a cap is bad. Just accept change. Every other sport has it for a reason

Shocking! Fans of the second biggest market in baseball don’t think the revenue and market difference is a big deal Claims that what has worked in other, much more successful leagues won’t work, but doesn’t offer any alternatives. Great stuff. Take a look at the payroll demographic of playoff teams. It isn’t just about if someone wins back to back WS. It’s about who is getting the most tickets to the dance. High correlation with payroll

When owners say that they can't compete they are lying. They don't want to compete because the margins are better for them when they put an awful team on the field. Every team in MLB has the financial resources to field a competitive team. Some of them just don't want to.

No, you don’t need to be more creative. The model is already there and working in by far the most popular sport in the world. What in the world are you talking about?

Yes it is. Pundits are so out of touch with fans. I do think there needs to be a floor to force teams to spend but if you think the entire league can compete with what the Dodgers are doing with their payroll then you're just flat wrong.

Until there’s a ticket price cap, a parking price cap, and a concession price cap I couldn’t give a f*+k about you millionaires and billionaires and your petty squabbles.

The MLB has the most parity of the 4 major sports meanwhile every 5 years there’s a new dynasty in the others

A Yankees fan and a former player don’t believe a salary cap matters.

Love you guys but disagree so hard on this. I also think comparing the last 20 years to what is happening now with the Dodgers is irrelevant when they have gotten so far out of hand with limitless power. I don't think anyone is asking for some crazy cap, just one within reason

The playoffs are so random is the reason we haven’t had repeat champions. We have the same big markets in playoffs year after year. The small markets sneak in on a wild card and have to rebuild the next year. A cap is essential and been needed for decades.

The Salary Cap/Luxury Tax stuff is just owner’s wanting to spend less…. It doesn’t help the teams that’s aren’t winning win

manfred gone in 2 years

This is the most uninformed clip I've seen on this topic

Well that’s not true.

Blatant falsehood

Of course not. Let's just continue to ruin the game.

No repeat champions…get a clue.

You need both a cap/floor and some sort of tv deal for all of mlb. The Dodgers and Yankees can pay their payroll just in tv revenue because of the size of their markets. If you want the game to matter in all markets, you have to find a way to level the playing field like NFL

How do the Royals, A’s, Pirates, Reds, Marlins, and Rays compete annually while NFL ‘small markets’ like Green Bay, Buffalo, Jacksonville, KC, Cincy, and Tennessee stay nationally relevant? Parity isn’t a luxury. No one wants a league where 20+ teams exist as target practice

You need a floor for sure. I'd cap contact length. It's not convenient to sing anything over 5 years for anyone. Teams should be able to cut their losses on a injury damaged player by insurance claim and terminating the contract.

Except it is

There needs to be a super star cap. Meaning. Create a metric on what a superstar player is. And a team can only sign 2 of those players as free agents. And have only 2 of those FA’s on your team at all times. So. If the dodgers signed Ohtani and Tucker, as like as they are on their team. They are prohibited from signing a “superstar” player. But can keep their “superstar” players they develop. And they can trade for superstars. Just can’t sign them through FA until one of those dudes if off the team.

@MLBPA Yes it is.

I'm sorry but if you don't think a salary cap and floor create parity you are just not very intelligent. Baseball will always have randomness and parity, it is a part of the sport, but it sure as hell would help and to say otherwise is a lie
