A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father during a counselling session in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district after she insisted on living with a man she had married against her family's wishes, police said. The shocking incident took place in the Badousa police station area on Thursday and has triggered widespread outrage across the district. According to police, the woman had been in a relationship with a young man from her neighbourhood. On May 18, she left home with him, prompting her family to file a complaint. A case was subsequently registered and police launched a search operation to trace her. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the woman was found safe on June 12 and brought back as part of the legal process. Her parents were informed and were called for discussions and counselling with police officials. During the interaction, the woman reportedly maintained that she wanted to stay with her husband. Police said she had married the man after leaving home and was unwilling to return to her family despite repeated attempts by relatives and officials to persuade her otherwise. According to investigators, tensions escalated during the counselling session when her father suddenly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, stabbing her in the abdomen. The injured woman was rushed to the Atarra Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead. SP Bansal said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, police registered a murder case against the woman's father. The accused has been taken into custody and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. "The woman had been safely recovered and her family was informed. During counselling and discussions with her parents, her father attacked her with a sharp weapon. A case has been registered and the accused has been detained. Further legal proceedings are underway," the SP said. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated further investigation into the case. The incident has drawn attention across Banda, with many describing it as a suspected case of honour killing. However, police have so far registered the case as murder and said further investigation will determine all circumstances leading to the killing.

A 21-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in broad daylight at the BC Road bus stand in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday evening, sending shockwaves across Karnataka. The victim, identified as Lavanya, a resident of Kakkepadavu, worked at a private nursing home in Kalladka. Police said the accused, identified as Chethan, allegedly attacked her with a machete after she repeatedly rejected his advances. He was arrested within hours near Vamanjoor-Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru following a coordinated police operation. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over crimes linked to harassment and one-sided obsession. Police have registered a murder case and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the attack. According to the police, Lavanya was returning home from work on Thursday, 16 July, at around 6 pm. She had boarded a KSRTC bus from Bantwal to Kakkepadavu after finishing her shift at the private nursing home in Kalladka. Police said Chethan, who is believed to be a distant relative of the victim, boarded the same bus and sat next to her. The accused had allegedly been pursuing Lavanya despite her repeatedly rejecting his advances. Sensing something was wrong, Lavanya reportedly called one of her relatives and informed them that a young man had sat beside her on the bus. The call was disconnected shortly afterwards. After Lavanya got off the bus at the BC Road bus stand, the accused allegedly followed her. Police said he then took out a machete from a bag and chased her. Despite her attempt to escape, he allegedly attacked her repeatedly before fleeing the scene. Police personnel from the Bantwal subdivision and Bantwal Town Police Station rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. Lavanya, who sustained critical injuries, was immediately shifted to Bantwal Taluk Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries despite efforts to save her. After the attack, the accused allegedly fled towards Mangaluru in an Alto car. During his escape, he reportedly called Lavanya's father and told him that he had killed his daughter and intended to end his own life. Acting swiftly, the Bantwal subdivision police formed a special investigation team. Using mobile phone location data and CCTV footage, officers traced and arrested the accused along with the vehicle near Vamanjoor-Pacchanadi on the outskirts of Mangaluru. Police sources said the accused had allegedly created a disturbance at the private hospital where Lavanya worked about a month earlier. Hospital staff reportedly intervened and prevented the situation from escalating. Investigators are now examining whether the absence of a formal police complaint after the earlier incident contributed to the tragedy. Bantwal Town Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in this district for allegedly killing his wife, suspecting her of having an extramarital affair, police said on Tuesday. He apparently filmed the victim's final moments while she was hanging from a noose. The woman, identified as Bhagyashree Jigalur (23), was found dead at the couple's house in Galagali village in Bilagi taluk on Monday evening, they said. Police registered a murder case against the deceased woman's husband, Praveen Ashok Jigalur, based on a complaint filed by her father. He has been arrested on murder charges, police said. According to police, the accused allegedly filmed his wife in her final moments while she was hanging from the noose, with the video purportedly showing her struggling, and later circulated it to several people, including her family members. However, investigators are yet to determine whether the woman was assaulted and then hanged or whether she died by hanging after an assault, since there were blood injuries found on her body. Around 5:30 pm, the accused called the victim's father and informed him that she had died. Preliminary investigation suggested that the accused suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship with another man. Police have recovered videos allegedly found on the woman's mobile phone, as well as those recorded by the accused after the incident. "The accused shared those videos with the woman's father, family members and some friends. We have recovered those videos," Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal said. According to the SP, the videos allegedly showing the affair were found on the wife's phone by the accused, who copied those videos to his own phone and shared them with some of his friends. "We have seized the husband's mobile phone. During its examination, we found videos that allegedly led him to suspect his wife was having an extramarital affair. We are examining those videos to determine the circumstances that led to the crime," he said. The SP added that even the victim's family had acknowledged they were aware of the alleged affair. Responding to reports that the accused may have made a video call to the man with whom his wife allegedly had the affair and showed him what had happened, Goyal said: "We have to verify that. We have seized the phone and sent it for data extraction. We will examine the call records, the data available on the device, and recover any deleted data, if possible." Police said the couple married in 2020 and lived together for about four years. They have a three-year-old son. According to the preliminary investigation, while the husband was working as a driver and travelling frequently over the past two years, the woman allegedly developed a relationship with another man from the area where her parental home is located. The alleged affair led to frequent disputes between the couple, police said. The woman had been staying at her parents' house for the last one-and-a-half months. Investigators are also looking into her alleged complaints that her husband was not taking proper care of her. According to the SP, on Monday, the accused allegedly went to his in-laws' house and brought his wife back to their home. The two were alone when the incident happened. Police said blood injuries were found on the woman's body and an iron rod-like weapon has been recovered. Officers have also collected evidence from the crime scene for forensic examination. "The post-mortem examination will clarify the nature of the injuries on the neck. We are also examining whether she was given any intoxicating substance. Stomach contents have been preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis," the officer said. Beer bottles were also found at the scene and police are examining whether the woman had been made to consume alcohol. "There are blood injuries on the woman's body, and the accused appeared to harbour resentment towards her. Instead of attempting to save her, he recorded videos and immediately shared them with several people. The exact sequence of events will be established after a detailed investigation," he said. Police said they would seek the accused's custody to verify the authenticity and timing of the videos recovered from the woman's phone, question witnesses and examine whether village panchayat meetings had earlier been held over the couple's marital disputes. Further investigation is underway.

In a fresh twist to the alleged gang-rape case linked to a villa party in #Bengaluru, police records suggested that one of the accused had filed a prior complaint claiming he was targeted in an extortion attempt by the woman, a 19-year-old college student, and her accomplice posing as a journalist. Police said the accused submitted an FIR on February 21, alleging that the woman, along with a man identifying himself as Imran from a regional news outlet, demanded money and threatened to air defamatory content if he refused to pay. According to officials, the extortion complaint was lodged a day before the woman approached authorities accusing Dixon Sando and Nikhil of sexual assault. Officers are now probing both versions to establish the sequence of events. In his statement, the complainant said he has lived at his current address for nearly two decades and runs a second-hand car business in #Rajajinagar area. He also claimed to operate a leased villa in #Jakkur that is rented out for small events and parties. He told police that his friend Dixon had booked the villa from February 14 to 16 for a #ValentinesDay gathering. The complainant said he reached the party around 2 am on February 14, where he met the woman. According to his version, the woman shared personal problems during the party and behaved in an overly familiar manner, which he said he discouraged. He further claimed that after the gathering ended around 4 am, she asked him for a drop. During the ride, she allegedly described herself as a "sugar baby" looking for a "sugar daddy" and asked him to connect her with potential contacts. The complainant also alleged that on February 18 the woman posted on Instagram accusing him and one more of drugging and sexually assaulting her at the party. Soon after, he claimed he began receiving calls from two phone numbers, with the caller identifying himself as "Imran, Crime Branch Head of Raj News". According to the complaint, the caller demanded that he meet them alone and pay money to the woman to 'settle' the matter, warning that a damaging television promo had already been prepared. The complainant has sought action against the woman, the caller, and others allegedly involved in blackmail. In her complaint, the 19-year-old college student alleged she was gang-raped after being forced to consume an intoxicating substance at a private villa in a posh Bengaluru locality. The first-year BA student, originally from #TamilNadu, told police she had been living in Bengaluru for about five months for her studies. According to the FIR, she came in contact with Dixon Sando (21) through Instagram in January and remained in touch with him. Police said that on the night of February 14, after college and dinner with a friend, she received a call from Dixon inviting her to a party at #RexVilla in north Bengaluru. She reached the venue in the early hours of February 15 along with a friend. At the party, Dixon allegedly introduced her to Nikhil (35). The woman claimed the two men later forced her to consume a pink tablet, after which she felt dizzy and lost consciousness. In her statement, she alleged she was sexually assaulted inside a room at the villa while incapacitated. She told police she briefly regained awareness during the incident and later found herself confined. The woman further alleged that the accused threatened to kill her if she reported the matter. Officials said she was later dropped near a mall. Police said the woman did not immediately approach authorities due to fear but sought medical treatment at a Bengaluru hospital on February 17. After informing her brother, she filed a complaint. Based on her statement, the police registered an FIR against Dixon Sando and Nikhil under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to sexual assault and criminal intimidation. Police said both the sexual assault allegations and the counter-complaint of extortion are under investigation.
