The original idea behind the VAR Show was genuinely promising. Transparency, accountability, the head of refereeing explaining decisions with actual audio. Exactly what football needed. Good intentions don’t survive incompetence and selective amnesia. It’s become a monthly show where Collum explains away inconsistencies that contradict last month’s explanations. That isn’t transparency, it’s damage control on a loop. VAR gives the team multiple angles, good review time, in a room without crowd pressure. The level of apologies under those conditions aren’t understandable, they’re incompetent. And when those same apologies come with reassurances that teams now have ‘clarity’, only for identical situations to be handled completely differently a month later, the show stops being transparency and starts being managed narrative. This month at least 3 significant incidents weren’t even discussed. No audio. No explanation. Just absent from a show specifically designed to address them. I get the Scotland can’t match EPL, FIFA or UEFA budgets. Fine. But you don’t need elite tech to draw an offside line consistently, apply a rule the same way twice, or watch a replay properly. The budget explains the ceiling. It doesn’t explain the floor - you don’t need FIFA money to watch a replay properly…

Collum's position is surely untenable now given the fact he's spinning around in circles trying to justify the club he's spent a career helping getting preferential treatment. Clancy is probably earmarked as Collum's replacement unfortunately though as he's as incompetent.
