It’s a great visual for showing the basic idea of a C-section, although the actual procedure is a little more nuanced. The surgeon doesn’t simply cut straight through every layer. Some tissues are opened sharply, while others are gently separated, and the rectus muscles are usually parted rather than cut. Once the uterus is opened, the baby is delivered, followed by the placenta. The uterus and abdominal wall are then closed in layers as appropriate. It’s a useful simplified animation, but there’s obviously a lot more surgical anatomy and technique involved in an actual caesarean.

This animation breaks down a C-section layer by layer, from the skin and subcutaneous tissue through the fascia, muscle, peritoneum, uterus, and amniotic sac. A simple visual guide to understanding what happens during the procedure.
