In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old woman from Assam was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner and his brother in Narmadapuram district, police said. The victim, identified as Rajina Begum, was a resident of Lakhimpur district in Assam and was working for a private company in Telangana. During her time there, she met the accused, Nitesh Yadav, a resident of Narmadapuram. The two later entered into a live-in relationship. According to police officials, the woman had allegedly been in a relationship with Yadav under the promise of marriage. When she began insisting on marriage, Yadav, along with his brother Sachin, allegedly killed her. Police said the accused strangled the woman to death in Makhan Nagar on February 25. In an attempt to evade arrest, they allegedly disposed of the body in a river nearly 80 kilometres away. The incident came to light only recently following an investigation. Both accused have since been taken into custody, and a case of murder has been registered against them. Further investigation is underway.

A public prosecutor attached to the City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru was caught red-handed by the Karnataka Lokayukta Police while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a complainant on Monday. The accused,has been identified as, Savitha Naveen Patil, 55, serving as Public Prosecutor at CCH-54, Bengaluru, was allegedly demanding a bribe to submit objections in Case registered at the Chennamanakere Achukattu Police Station. The complainant, Manjunath, 40, a resident of Banashankari, approached the Lokayukta alleging that the prosecutor had demanded Rs. 5,000 to carry out the official work. Based on the complaint, Lokayukta Police registered Case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. During the trap operation, the accused was allegedly caught while accepting the Rs. 5,000 bribe amount and was secured by the Lokayukta team and arrested for further investigation.

The incident is said to have occurred on 02 April 2026, at the Volksrust Police Station. It is worth noting that in light of the serious allegation, the SAPS has instituted an internal investigation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In addition to the internal investigation, a criminal investigation is also underway to ensure all aspects of this matter are addressed transparently. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified of the incident and it is expected that a parallel investigation will be conducted by this Directorate.
