Back in 2009, the newly appointed director of the National Snow and Ice Data Center, Mark Serreze, warned that Arctic sea ice was in a death spiral. He predicted the Arctic could be ice-free by the summer of 2030, likely even earlier. Nearly two decades later, the data tell a very different story. According to the NSIDC's own records, September sea ice has shown no downward trend since 2007 - 18 years of stability. Despite rising CO2 levels and every claimed feedback mechanism, the ice is not budging. It remains right where it was in the mid-2000s. As climate researcher Javier Vinos put it, "Clearly the models on which these predictions are based do not accurately reflect the actual climate." The Arctic death spiral never happened, yet Serreze remains director of the NSIDC. There is zero accountability.

A new study shows a thick ice cap in Greenland was completely ice-free just 7,000 years ago. The cap is Prudhoe Dome, which today is some 1,600 feet thick. The researchers drilled through the ice and dated the sediments below it. It turns out those sediments were once exposed to sunlight, meaning there was no ice. 7,000 years ago, summer temperatures were 3 to 5C warmer than today. This study shows, once again, that large ice losses have occurred in the recent past, caused entirely by natural climate variability - no CO2 forcing required.

A 2025 study in Frontiers argues the real thermostat is the vertical temperature gradient and the water cycle. Water vapor and clouds account for about 95% of the atmosphere's radiative effect. CO2 contributes roughly 4-5% with only 4% of that human-made. Without the lapse rate, i.e. the steady cooling with altitude, extra CO2 would have no warming effect at all. On Earth, air cools about 6.5C per km, and that gradient, not carbon, sets surface warmth. In their model, doubling CO2 adds at most 1.5C, or nothing. Moisture, clouds and natural dynamics run the climate. CO2 is just along for the ride.

Today's warming is not unusual. A new study using Antarctic ice core data reveals the roughly 1.1C warming of the past century is not unusual in Earth's climate history.
