May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? This section of the road is built as an expressway and as such encourages speeding especially at any time beyond midnight. There are no traffic calming measures in place yet it is freely used by pedestrians and Boda-Bodaz like any other city road. Roads are supposed to be designed and constructed bearing in mind the activities that take place around them (Land Use). Interventions to control speed must be implemented if there is a high volume of different road users. They would have got his attention and he would not have died. A glaring example of contractors that do not care about road safety is on the section of Kampala-Masaka in the swampy section of Lwera. The Concrete Barriers are there and in places where they are not, there is nothing preventing a motor vehicle falling off into the swamp. Not even a rope. UNTIL THE DAY WHEN THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS COUNTRY ACCEPTS THAT ROAD CRASHES ARE PREVENTABLE AND PARLIAMENT STARTS DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILTY ON ROAD SAFETY, THIS CARNAGE WILL CONTINUE. ACCEPTING THERE IS A PROBLEM IS THE FIRST STEP TO SOLVING IT OR MANAGING IT. TOMORROW IT MIGHT BE ME OR YOU. This happened on 20th April around 12:10 pm on Turuvekere Road. The KSRTC driver tried to overtake a car nearing a curve. This is really a huge concern for safety of passengers and others on the road. This could have ended really worse if the car didn't hit the brakes at the right time. And thankfully there were no other vehicles behind car as well otherwise that could have ended horribly too. Bus number is : KA11F0520 Number plate image in the below post 👇🏼KSRTC

Why Hyderabad Drowns After A 20min Rain? I may not have a simple answer to this complex question but was in Raidurgam area yesterday and this what I saw. This is right next to the Raidurgam metro. It is like the IT hub of Hyderabad and look at the state of things here. Roads are being dug to lay drainage pipes. Locals told me it has been close to a year since they started digging. The debris is just lying on the road, existing drainage seems to be damaged and all the sewer is flowing on to the main road. To make things worse, many are parking right on the road making the congested area much more difficult to commute. There is no parking space at Raidurgam Metro. If someone wants to take the metro, they have to arrive on a separate vehicle to reach. Plus there are a million autos lined up on the road. Traffic police who hide behind trees or corner you in some random street won’t regulate traffic on the main roads. They won’t show a solution to park vehicles but will collect challans. Why are you collecting challans without any space being earmarked for parking? Do you expect people to jump off a parachute and get into a metro? We look at China, Japan with their advanced technology of laying roads in a day and will be wowed. Here governments talk about AI city, Future City and such money minting projects for the government and still get wowed. Why isn’t AI or advanced technology being used to repair roads, drainages or maintain infrastructure in the existing city??? Why this craze to call the existing city a dump and then pumping huge public money into a nonexistent Future City? Why is governance driven by real estate ambitions of a few politicians?

Good day. I was involved in an incident in Bulawayo on Plumtree Road, in front of Tiger Wheel & Tyre. A kombi driver stopped in the middle of the road, causing an obstruction. When I confronted him about it, he threatened me with an axe and told me that I was a "useless white person" whom he could easily kiII. I would like to make the public aware of this behaviour. I have a short video of the incident. Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the vehicle's registration number clearly, but the driver's face is visible and can be seen clearly in the footage. Today, I hosted the first meeting of a special panel on child safety online. For decades, we have made the real world safer for children and we must do the same in the digital world. The positive opportunities that technology offers cannot come at the cost of their safety, health or happiness. In Europe, tech platforms already have a responsibility to ensure the safety of users. But we must also do more to protect and empower our young people online. This is the aim of the special panel. We will work intensely with experts and stakeholders, including our youth, to forge a strong and realistic European approach to keep our children safe in the digital age. By the summer, the special panel will publish its recommendations for further action.

HANLE–CHUMAR ROAD OPENS FOR THE PUBLIC A 91 km road connecting Hanle to the border village of Chumar constructed by #ProjectHimank of the Border Roads Organisation, #BRO has been opened for the Public in Ladakh. The route traverses extreme high altitudes from 14,500 to 17,200 feet, including the high Salsa La Pass. Our second oversight visit was at WF Nkomo Street resurfacing project. Approximately 4km of roadway near the CBD is currently being resurfaced, with work progressing on this important transport corridor. During the visit, we assessed progress on site and engaged on the project scope, timelines, and the completion of remaining works, including road markings and resurfacing along sections still awaiting upgrades. Thoughts on One-Knee Setups: One of the toughest things, with the increase in velocity, is a catcher's ability to make the correct decision and attack angle to receive or block a baseball. This becomes easier and quicker out of a one knee set up, due to the ability to sit lower and have a better visual of the plane of the baseball. This allows for the catcher to wait longer, have confidence in his decision with receiving approach and minimize excessive movement or what umpires call noise. You see this a lot with last minute decisions and jerky movements out of traditional set ups. This concept is also beneficial when blocking and recognizing the height of the pitch sooner, due to the lower set up and increasing blocking efficiency.
