The Met Police have arrested a 52 year old man in connection with a sledgehammer attack on a Muslim family in East London. A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Monday, 8 June at around 09:12hrs, police were called to reports of an aggravated burglary on Galbraith Street, Isle of Dogs. “Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service. A 52-year-old man was detained in connection with the incident.” The suspect was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital by paramedics following the incident. Although the Met believes this incident was mental health related, they say they are committed to tackling all forms of hate crime, including Islamophobia.

In the lobby, they encountered a man with blood on his hands, clothing and shoes who told officers, “I was defending myself,” before directing them to an apartment where they found a woman covered in blood and suffering from multiple apparent stab wounds.😳| #ONLYinDADE *🗞️ Police said surveillance footage showed the man returning to the building with the woman around 10:32 p.m. Later, around 4:26 a.m., he was allegedly seen leaving an elevator with what appeared to be blood on his shoes while holding a knife. Police said he dropped the knife, picked it back up and later left the building. He returned to the lobby shortly before 4:40 a.m. and was seen wearing the same blood-covered shoes. Detectives also reported finding blood-stained knives and clothing inside the apartment. The victim was reportedly visiting from Mexico and staying with the man. The man invoked his right to an attorney and was arrested and transported to TGK.

Police are on the hunt for more CIT Robbery suspects following yesterday’s shootout in Laudium, west of Pretoria. Six suspects were shot dead and one was arrested on the “Military Road.” Police seized two vehicles (one hijacked) and four firearms and ammunition. The gang has been linked to a CIT robbery in nearby Atteridgeville last week and they were planning to rob another cash van. They were intercepted en-route to a safehouse at Mahpral Heights in Himalaya Street Laudium. A heavy shootout ensued with police. The possibly that the gang could be involved in others crimes is under investigation. More arrests are expected. Multiple police units and private security were involved in the breakthrough. Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner, General Fred Kekana, told eNCA on the scene that police will continue to act decisively when they come under attack. #CrimeWatch
