We can respond to Trump’s threats and build a strong and resilient economy without undermining our democratic values, environmental protections, and Indigenous rights.

Watch my full speech in the house here, where I make the case for improving Bill C-5 in both process and substance

Much respect to you, Nate. This is what civil democratic discourse should look like in the HoC. Due diligence to reframe a bill for the sake of preserving democratic rights is certainly worth taking an extra week.

How is a democratic government, which ran an election on this platform, passing legislation that changes the approvals process undemocratic?

Too bad the Poilievre-Carney coalition is passing the bill anyway

Good for you, Nate. I just finished reading Ezra Klein's "Abundance". My concern is exactly that "Abundance Liberalism" is a fad that goes to far towards neoliberalism or even the authoritarian impulses of the right in opposing local democracy and public input. Canada is NOT California where YIMBYism took root, but there are boondoggles like the high speed rail line. Their legal system is also at fault. A big problem in Canada/Ontario is that instead of getting rid of safeguards like court cases opposing things, our court system is bogged down because of a lack of judges and resources. Andrew Coyne's new book provides an accurate diagnosis of our current lack of true democracy, and Carney is perhaps too committed to action than to ensuring we make good decisions that have been properly reviewed.
