In The Dirty Dozen, the role of Major John Reisman was initially offered to John Wayne, but he passed on it. Lee Marvin was subsequently offered the part and accepted. With a cast as “difficult” as the characters they portrayed, the film brought together major stars such as Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, and Donald Sutherland… As a result, the atmosphere on set was sometimes tense, as everyone had strong personalities. Despite its relatively violent content for 1967 standards, the film became a box office hit and paved the way for the “anti-hero military team” genre.

In the original script of "Prime Cut" (1972), there was a scene in which Lee Marvin makes love to Sissy Spacek's character. Lee Marvin feuded with director Michael Ritchie during production, balking at the romantic angle between the characters. He absolutely detested it. Later, Marvin spoke about the bitter experience of working with Michael Ritchie, "I’ve made some mistakes I wish I hadn’t. One of them was workin’ with Michael Ritchie on 'Prime Cut' (1972). Oh, I hate that son of a b***h. He likes to use amateurs, because he can totally dominate them." ("Lee Marvin: Point Blank", Dwayne Epstein, 2013) P.S: On this day, 54 years ago, "Prime Cut" (1972) premiered in Kansas City, USA.

I’m a huge fan of crime films, certainly film noir is one of my favorite genres. The crime films that take place in L.A. are particularly vibrant for me. I find L.A. to be a very interesting landscape for crime films. 'The Big Sleep' (1946). 'Double Indemnity' (1944), 'Kiss Me Deadly' (1955), into the ’50s. After the early ’50s, 'Chinatown' (1974), certainly a great L.A. crime film. 'To Live and Die in L.A.' (1985) I love very much. I’m not a big fan of people referring to post ’40s, early ’50s crime films as film noir, as it’s a kind of very specific genre for me.
