I don't think Trump is kidnapping students simply to get rid of his ideological opposition. His administration wants to see which judges and officials with government sanctioned power will oppose this. In Germany in June 1934, Hitler's cronies assassinated everyone that could oppose his ascension to dictator. I think that's what Trump plans to do. Civil rights violations like these trigger action which will be noted by Trump's henchman. It's how they make the list of who they need to get rid of in order to seize dictatorial power.
