Obviously, flight and air combat sims from the 80s and even into the 90s weren't nearly as visually detailed and stunning as modern ones. But when Falcon was released it was the best air combat sim at its time. It was developed by Sphere and published by Spectrum HoloByte for Macintosh and MS-DOS, with later ports to Atari ST, Amiga, and other platforms. You take control of the F-16 Falcon jet fighter in realistic (at the time!) missions involving air-to-air combat against MiGs and ground attacks. The game features an incredibly detailed cockpit view with instrumentation, multiple HUD modes, radar systems, and authentic flight physics. It had variable difficulty levels and even a black-box recorder for reviewing flights. However, Falcon's biggest strength was walking the fine line between hardcore simulation depth with high playability even for the more casual gamers. I never considered myself a flight sim expert but could still get the F-16 off the ground :) I know, the polygon graphics look dated now but there was a time when this was state of the art. Top Gun (the movie) hit the cinemas in 1986, Falcon was released shortly after... excellent timing.

Let's break down why this F-15E Strike Eagle being shot down matters to the legacy media so much this morning. When President Trump declared that we had air dominance over Iran, and then this happens, they were only all too eager to play it up because they want to make the president look bad. This is war. There's always bad things that happen in war. This is why we haven't been frothing at the mouth to go to war and why I don't support boots on the ground. But the legacy media practically cheering this on is disgusting, too. We've successfully flown thousands of sortie missions without incident in Iran. We've transitioned from stealth aircraft (F-35s and B-2s) to non-stealth aircraft as Iran's air defenses have been degraded and destroyed. Despite the air dominance, there is always a chance of our aircraft being shot down by a "golden BB," which is usually heat seeking missiles that are very difficult to detect, and the military pilots flying missions over Iran know this very well. This is war, bad things happen, even when you have such massive dominance of the skies. The fact that ONE F-15E being shot down is such big news only underscores how effective our military actually is.

HUD Tape from an F/A -18C Hornet as it destroys an Iraqi MiG 21 approaching head on at supersonic speed. On January 17, 1991, during Operation Desert Storm, U.S. Navy pilots Mark Fox and Nick Mongillo flying F/A-18C Hornet jets from the USS Saratoga shot down two Iraqi MiG-21 fighters in under 40 seconds while still carrying full bomb loads. Both pilots went on to drop their ordnance on their targets and return to their carriers. These two kills were the only two fixed wing air-to-air kills by U.S. Navy jets during Desert Storm. Both F/A-18s flown that day now rest in museums. **FULL DISCLOSURE** I believe this HUD tape to be authentic. I have not found any evidence that this is unauthentic. I know the radio calls are authentic.

Now the setup is different. The USS Abraham Lincoln is already in position with advanced F-35 jets aboard. The USS Gerald R. Ford is heading from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. That's 2 full aircraft carrier groups, missile-loaded destroyers, and a submarine packed with cruise missiles in the area.
