A true "Black Light"? :O This is basically an "inverted light", as shown by the chosen color being displayed as its opposite at the end of the clip. Useful for forcing certain areas like cave entrances to be darker than usual! We have a discord btw! :) #b3d #blender3d...

this is causes issues with discrepancies between viewport render and final render, do not recommend this. The more it samples the more it absorbs light, pretty much forever

@sweeepr Interesting... when testing this, I found that you can clamp its falloff radius with the Ray Length option. I wonder if you could just set a clamp at a reasonable distance, and if that would prevent that issue? I imagine it would

Wow, We use to do this nearly 2 decades ago before calculating ambient occlusion became economical. Interesting to see it again. I think there was a game a couple years ago that used it as well for a lot of color shifts and a selective stylized look/game mechanic.

I had some fun with an earlier blender release where i made a material with a very high negative value and the material was so dark it absorbed surrounding light, much like you've got with this light source.

Yeah negative light is great for controlling bounce in a product shot or room scene

This was use in the old day (like 2010) to control the contrast or faking soft shadow of some spot.

Bladerunner early production toyed with the idea of the iconic gun shooting a black beam, so there's something for you...
