The World Cup starts tonight! ⚽️ But by the end of the first match, we’ll be one man down. Someone dies by suicide in our country every 90 minutes. Three-quarters of these are men. I spoke with Luke the co-founder of #ANDYSMANCLUB about male suicide, mental health and the help that is out there. 👇 Andy's Man Club is an incredible organisation that helps men across Britain open up, talk about what is going on in their lives, and help one another. I have been to sessions in my constituency and was overwhelmed by the support they can offer men dealing with all sorts of problems in their lives - small or large. In each session, a football is passed around the group to share thoughts, challenges, and successes. Simple, but effective and liberating! As a government, we take mental heath - and men's mental health - seriously. We published England’s first Men's Health Strategy last year, which committed further funding for suicide prevention programmes, recognising that suicide is one of the biggest killer of men under 50. We are investing £3.6 million in community based suicide prevention projects - and supporting the Premier League Together Against Suicide initiative with Samaritans. And this is a challenge for all of us, not just government. As a society we can do more to encourage men to open up, get the weight off their shoulders. That is a key part of our Men and Boys work led by David Lammy - amplifying the issues, assuring folk there is help out there. Enjoy the football, look out for one another, and know there is support out there!

Mental Health is so important. RIP Chuck! Last night a Baltimore Raven Superfan turned to social media in order tell the world goodbye. Only known publicly as Chuck, both on Instagram and Twitter, it appears that he has taken his own life. - Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the United States experiences mental illness in a given year. - Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the country. - In 2019, the suicide rate in the United States was 13.9 suicides per 100,000 individuals. Males were 22.8 per 100,000, whereas females 6.2 per 100,000. To you All: Stop comparing yourself to everyone else on social media. That will make you think that your life sucks. Social media skews towards a false idea of mass happiness. People show the best photos of themselves, the best moments they experience and usually ignore all the bad. To Our Politicians: Fund mental health initiatives. Make sure it's easy for anyone to get help regardless of their income. Make mental health a priority, PLEASE!

41 year old Nishant from UP who was staying in Mumbai died by suicide in a Mumbai hotel. He's left a suicide note alleging that he's taking this extreme step because of the torture by his wife and her aunt. How long are the authorities and government going to be mere spectators of this rising number of suicides? How long will the media narrate mental health as the primary reason for such suicides? How long are we as society going to not question the biased laws of the land, the lopsided systems and absence of any government body to look into these issues?

This is the Man Down Cornwall campaign video for 2024. It’s a thought-provoking watch, but that’s exactly what we want it to be. Far too many men suffer in silence and are not able to talk openly about how they feel about themselves, their lives and the world around them. The stigma of male mental health needs to end. Man Down run talking meetings around Cornwall (UK) for men with mental health concerns. Meetings are run by male volunteers with lived experience of mental health. We run these meetings to help men talk to other men in a safe, supportive environment without judgement. Together we can eradicate the stigma of male mental health. We want this video to be shared far and wide. We want to make men understand that the trauma effect and the destruction left behind after a life is taken is unbearable and utterly devastating for everyone involved. 97.5% of mass shootings in the United States are committed by men. When that happens, we don’t blame all men. We don’t turn their identity into the story. Yet now we’re seeing claims largely amplified from the U.S., but echoed by some far right influencers and Canadian politicians, including MLA Tara Armstrong in B.C. trying to suggest gender identity is part of the cause. Why? Because it’s politically convenient to demonize a small, vulnerable group instead of confronting the real issues: violence, mental health, and prevention.
