Story goes that when the Japanese government offered to build Japura hospital, he wanted a 1000 bed hospital built. Which they gifted to but with 1001 beds instead. That last bed was perpetually to be kept for him and family as a tribute to him. Anyone can clarify?

Dont know the last part. But yes Sri Jayawardhanapura general hospital was gifted by Japan as a tribute to him. I guess in 1983 or so ...
