India has always been among the leading countries in establishing global peace. Peace and harmony have been the basic characteristics of Indian culture since ancient times. India is the birthplace of many religions. These religions gave the message of peace and humanity throughout the world. The concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” has been the most prominent feature of Hinduism. Buddhism and Jainism taught the lessons of non-violence, non-violence and aparigraha all over the world. People like Nelson Mandela got the inspiration and self-confidence to achieve independence from Gandhi. Today Gandhi's concept of 'Sarvodaya' is an inclusive model of development for the entire world. वैश्विक शांति स्थापित करने में भारत सदैव अग्रणी देशों में शामिल रहा है। प्राचीन काल से ही शांति एवं सद्भाव भारतीय संस्कृति की मूल विशेषताएं रही हैं। भारत अनेक धर्मो की जन्मस्थली है। इन धर्मों ने दुनिया भर में शांति एवं मानवता का संदेश दिया। “वसुधैव कुटुंबकम” की अवधारणा हिंदू धर्म की प्रभु प्रमुख विशेषता रही है। बौद्ध एवं जैन धर्म ने दुनिया भर में अहिंसा, अस्तेय, अपरिग्रह का पाठ पढ़ाया। सल्तनत काल, मुगल काल एवं ब्रिटिश काल में भी भारत ने सहिष्णुता को ही बढ़ावा दिया। भारत ने बाहर से आयी संस्कृतियों को भी अपने में समाहित किया। विभिन्न धर्मों के असंख्य संप्रदायों ने भी सदैव शांति एवं सद्भाव स्थापित करने की दिशा में न सिर्फ सैद्धांतिक विचारों का प्रतिपादन किया बल्कि सक्रियतापूर्वक आम जनमानस में उसका प्रचार प्रसार भी किया। उपनिवेशवाद के दौर में भी भारत ने रचनात्मक तरीके से संपूर्ण विश्व को शांति का संदेश दिया। स्वामी विवेकानंद का शिकागो में दिया गया भाषण आखिर कौन भूल सकता है? पराधीनता की स्थिति में भी यहां के विद्वानों ने न सिर्फ भारतीय समाज को जागृत किया बल्कि उनका असर पूरी दुनिया पर पड़ा। महात्मा गाँधी और उनका चिंतन मुख्य रूप से सत्य, अहिंसा और सत्याग्रह के तरीके पूरी दुनिया में लोकप्रिय हैं। महात्मा गाँधी के अहिंसक आंदोलन ने कई पराधीन देशों में स्वतंत्रता की अभिलाषा उत्पन्न की और उनके साधन अनेक देशों को स्वाधीनता प्राप्ति में सहायक साबित हुए। नेल्सन मंडेला जैसे लोगों को स्वाधीनता प्राप्ति की प्रेरणा और आत्मबल गाँधी से ही मिला। आज गाँधी की ‛सर्वोदय’ की अवधारणा समस्त विश्व के समक्ष विकास का एक समावेशी मॉडल है।
