In 1980, renowned boxing trainer Cus D’Amato met 13-year-old Mike Tyson at a gym in upstate New York. After observing Tyson spar for about ten minutes, the 72-year-old D’Amato predicted that he would become the youngest heavyweight champion in history. D’Amato trained Tyson and became his legal guardian after Tyson’s mother passed away, serving as a positive mentor figure. Sadly, D’Amato passed away from pneumonia in November 1985, one year before Tyson achieved the prediction by defeating Trevor Berbick to win the heavyweight title at age 20, making him the youngest ever.

Words can’t describe this day for me meeting my hero, one of the greatest heavyweight boxers to ever enter the ring and listen to him talk about his boxing career on stage. I loved hearing him talking about his stories with his mentor, Cus D’amato and hearing him talk about his famous fights against Trevor Berbick when he won his first world title at 20 years old, Evander Holyfield and his insane rivalry and street fight against Mitch Green which he had a great laugh on stage talking about it. As he walked out I thought to myself “This is the closest thing I’ll experience to being at a Mike Tyson ring walk.” And it was unbelievable! Throughout the show he spoke with humbleness, honesty and showed how grateful he is for his boxing career and how his life is now. Anyone that knows me knows Mike Tyson is the one person I’d ever want to meet and never in a million of years did I ever think I’d meet him. Thank you Mike!
