Mass production for efficiency vs artisans and craftsmen who knew about beauty.

Everyone should feel ashamed for how we have turned out. We have devolved in so many areas it is heartbreaking

It’s sad how now that we can mass produce beautiful aesthetic on the cheap, it’s been totally abandoned for soulless, low-effort bullshit.

By design. Once you start to ask why that's when the story gets much uglier.

The contrast is brutal but undeniable. Everything feels smaller, duller now.

Look up communist architecture and socialist modernism and you'll notice an overlapping pattern here. Make of that what you will.

Industrial. Just like the schools where you send your kids. They look like prisions.

Someone deliberately made everything bland or ugly and deliberately. But why?

Caring about the details is such a lost art....everywhere.

The very worst thing is not so much the uninspired and ugly new versions. Its that the beautiful original articles have been destroyed to accommodate them.If thry were merely added on it wouldnt be so bad as it could be undone at sone point when someone with sense took charge

When capitalism made profitability the sole value, artisan values were lost.

Oh year, the "good" old times, were life was so easy, without warm water, without electricity, without any type of phone, just heating with a wood stove, running whater and Bath and WC on the floor - this was what living was for most of the people

The future is supposed to be better than the present. In this case it is not at all.

You can still build like that now only qestion is, are you willing to pay for it? That type of stuff was expensiv as hell aswell at the time it was made/build.

Now do public sanitation systems, hospitals, and public transportation. Then do mental health facilities, barber shops, and women's sports.

It even gets worse with brutalism architecture...that is intentionally designed to demoralize your spirit. Like the Obama Library...or when they slap these big hunks of goofy looking garbage in public spaces and call it "art".

These dumb comparisons always keep being made but all the stuff from the past was by and for the upper classes, while the stuff now is for everyone, and in far greater volume too. How are you going to supply the stone metal and craftsmen in 1000x the quantity today? Nobody thinks Similarly how are you going to feed ten billion people fresh California local hifi produce? Throwing platitudes is very tribe like, you see something someone said on twitter and it becomes your new opinion and you parrot it but nothing is so simple. Everybody wants to change the world nobody wants to understand why it is how it is in the first place. They keep saying you can just change things but maybe you shouldn’t change things, maybe you’ll fuck everything up, maybe you should understand how they work first, have you thought about that Do you really want to go back to the past with stone and metal where people shat in buckets and hundreds of lamplighters went around the city twice a day burning whale oil but only for the ultra elite that could afford it The whole ornate thing was nice and stuff but you have to project backwards to the identical position in society then. Most of us would be utterly crushed like bugs, if at all we made it out of infancy, so mostly likely we’d have a short and painful and confusing life and poor

When the money was stronger, the design was better and lasted longer. When the money is weak, design is stripped and function is the sole purpose.

Yes, but if we didnt modernize and minimize in construction and manufacturing we would have depleted the earths resources already and be in a hellscape beyond sci-fi so be grateful rational minds won over the decadent.
