A woman pulled into her own driveway. Two dogs she did not know approached her vehicle. And according to investigators, they prevented her from safely getting out. That is the part people need to sit with. Not a park. Not a sidewalk. Not somebody else’s yard. Her own driveway.... Her husband comes outside, sees the dogs, goes back in for a handgun, and when one of the dogs allegedly charges him aggressively, he fires before it can bite him. Now everybody is going to have an opinion because dogs are involved. I get it. I love dogs. But I do not trust dogs I do not know. Because we do not speak the same language. A dog owner may know the difference between playful and aggressive. A stranger may not. And when your dog is standing at somebody’s car door or charging them in their own driveway, it is not that stranger’s job to decode your dog’s personality in real time. That responsibility is on the owner. Leash your dog. Fence your dog. Control your dog. Because “my dog is nice” does not mean anything to the person who does not know your dog and is trying not to get bitten. People that say "my dog is nice" forget that many dogs are nice to those that are part of the pack. If they aren't part of the pack they can be extremely aggressive.

Would have done the same exact thing. Had a good friend get bit by his daughter’s dog. He almost died from the infection in the bones in his hand. Not playing games with my or my family’s safety.

Some years ago I had a similar encounter. Pulled into my driveway and a chihuahua came charging at me in my driveway before I could get out of my car. At the time I was on crutches. I did manage to get out of the car and the rat was biting my pants. I yelled at it trying to scare it away. It didn’t leave. I then shoved it away; and it came back with a vengeance. This time I punted it across the street. This time it ran off. I believe I killed it because it never came back, was never seen again, and the owner came to my door to complain (I was not home but caught on camera). I don’t regret it at all.

If you want a dog nobody will have any reason to be afraid of, there are plenty of toy breeds available. If you have a dog big enough to maul a hand, foot, or face, or an even bigger one that could break bones or rip out a larynx, then you have the responsibility of keeping it restrained.

No problem here, I do have a problem when law enforcement enters a property and kills the pet immediately.

I almost shot a pit bull that charged at me, but stopped short. Told the owners to come get their dog before it got shot. Animal control took the dog.

If your property which has no right to be on someone else's property is endangering people your property should be removed however it needs to be removed.

100% drop the dog. Owner can retrieve the dog’s remains from my trash can. I love my dog; if it attacked one of my family members, it would be in the ground that day.

Dogs are great, but sometimes they feel the need to dominate the space they live in if not properly trained. An older friend once had to call the police because his dog cornered him in the living room. It should be a fine if an owner of a dog allows the animal to roam the area, or does not have adequate fencing if the dog is outside.

Wild I find this on my timeline as I come inside from grocery shopping and my neighbors dog is loose again and comes running to me while my hands were full with bags (y'all know how we carry in the groceries). Luckily, I already know this dog. We have become friends, and he likes me better than his owners because whenever he is loose, he comes and finds me if I'm outside in the garden. One of the first times I met him scared tf out of me, because this is one of those not-pitbull but some sort of skinnier/leaner/taller mastiffs -- mostly likely a brindled mixed breed between pitbulls and American Staffordshire terriers..). It was 2am and I was outside tending to my garden while letting my dog out and heard something stepping in the leaves behind us and there he was, stalking us. It wasn't until later I realized he was trying to figure out if we would play with him, but still. I snatched up my 15 lbs dog, threw him inside, grabbed my gun and my knife and stronger flashlight, went back outside to find him waiting for me at the door. That's when I realized who it was. From then on, even if it's 2am in my backyard, Ive been carrying at least something to protect myself from the 4-legged threats. I just hope he doesn't run up to the wrong person, or a cop.. I don't believe in bad dogs, just bad owners.

I too am a dog lover. I had two up until recently. You never know. I was walking down the sidewalk on a main road in my town one evening. Approaching me was a guy walking his large dog while he was speaking on his phone. As they approached, I could tell immediately the dog was on alert and eyeing me as they approached. I put my hand on my firearm while my shirt was still over it keeping it concealed. The guy stayed on his phone and moved himself and his dog completely off the sidewalk but the dog was pulling to come after me and the guy was struggling a bit to keep hold of the dog and he wasn’t a large guy. I never took my eyes off the dog in case it broke loose. I got passed them and started walking sideways so I could keep my eyes on the dog. I am very thankful the dog did not break free and nothing happened.

I don’t trust dogs. I like dogs and did a wildlife inspection west DFW on Friday and dot attacked by a very large dog.

Years ago a neighbor (rural) had a pack of dogs and never leashed them. The dogs seemed more aggressive to my wife and daughters, but were aggressive always. I finally shot a couple of them when they were on my property. DA charged me for cruelty. I was acquitted.

If you or you're loved one feels threatened on your property then you should protect yourself using every means available

around here, those would likely be pit mixes if not full bred. one of our shelters takes in all the unadoptable pit & pit mixes from all the other shelters & does $20 adoption sales.

Owner accountability. I love dogs and, yes, I would have shot that dog, too.

He should have used a shotgun. More effective at short ranges on fast-moving predators.

I love dogs and I would hate to have to hurt one but if one I didn’t know started approaching and getting aggressive, I’m dropping it. If you don’t want your dogs getting hurt in any way, keep them contained. Plain and simple.
