A330 Pilots: Why does the Airbus A330 always seem to touch down so smoothly? 📹: timflyspotting

Because we are all absolute aces! 😉 Seriously though, it’s a big wing, the trailing gear enables us to ‘finesse’ the actual touchdown to a greater extent than was possibly on my previous types. Jumbo was similar though.

Because that sexy bitch does things her own way. Smooth.

Easiest plane I’ve ever landed. Big wing. Slow approach speeds. Trailing link main gear. Greasers 99% of the time.

Approx. 50’ above runway, flight control computers switch from Normal Law to Flare Law. FL is a slight nose-down tendency that gradually increases as plane descends through flare. Pilot applies gentle, increasing back-pressure on sidestick to hold the desired landing attitude.

The A330 is renowned for smooth landings thanks to its fly-by-wire system, forgiving handling characteristics, and energy-absorbing landing gear. Modern Boeing aircraft such as the 777 and 787 are equally capable, but Airbus flight-control laws are often credited with making flare control more forgiving. Ultimately, pilot skill and weather conditions matter most.

Not a pilot, but its the wings; Its so big for the plane and so aerodynamic, it generates a lot of lift which you can argue would make a soft landing hard, but Airbus's fbw computer have a special flare mode which introduces a nose down command pushing the pilot to a flare🤩

I have 3000 + hours flying A330 as F/O . This is absolutely the ultimate flying machine, very docile and pleasurable. Now I fly ATR72, which is quite the opposite, wild, wild beast.

Because 330 pilots are better than other pilots.

Because its so easy to land an A330! Flew the A330-200 and -300 with RR and PW engines for 15 years, not one bad landing. Now on the A340 since 10 years, even a nice landing often feels hard due to the undampened center gear.

Simple. The pilot is a former USAF jet jockey. He lands smoothly knowing he's got lots of runway to use. Navy pilots 'slam' the plane down still hoping to 'catch the wire'. One can always tell the difference between an air force and navy pilot by their landings...

It’s honestly the easiest big jet to land, big wing, good ground effect, trailing link undercarriage - it’s controlling the front bogey after touchdown that’s the trick 👌🏼

...because as the B-747 was the Queen of the sky, the A-330 is the Ballerina of the sky.

Perfect design. One of the easiest planes to land.

Huge wings. Massive ground effect. Fool proof main gears. A well designed plane.

Because she is a sexy bird

Big wing with ground effect coming in at 1/2 span, sidestick control law changes to 'flare' at 50ft to (help) prevent over controlling, gear truck trailing (although this is very debatable). In short a veritable pussycat.

It’s the Wing.

Because Ryanair does not operate A330s...? 🫣

I think the trailing gear has a lot to with it. It's the only plane I have flown where I was able to slick 100% of my landings.

Because it’s the butter machine. Just facts.

Engineering at its peak

Because it is the best airliner ever built

It has excellent gliding performance thanks to its wing design. It’s very easy to land. The only challenge is landing it when it’s empty.

Canadian know- how,we design them(BOMBARDIER), build them and then sell the company to (AIRBUS)FOREIGN country for peanuts. Kind of the like the Arrow!!!!!!!! WE ARE THE ELBOWS UP OUR ASS CROWD.

Well ours never on Saturday night

It really does

🛬10/10

Because that bird uses its own brain to land not the pilots

I concur. Every single time I flew on KLM’s A330-200, I get to ‘feel’ the buttery smooth landing !

Try that with @Ryanair 🤣🤣🤣

All my flights on A330 had a very smooth touch down.

Big wing. When Airbus designed the 330 and 340 they used a shared wing to save costs. Because the 340 is heavier, it means the wing is a bit oversized for the 330.

De las aeronaves más bellas y elegantes en vuelo y pista. 🙂😍

Because of the tilted gear

Excellent design and control laws
