The road that would eventually lead to the Sonic animated shorts began with Webber pitching an animated opening for Sonic Mania, in the vein of Sonic CD. It was shot down, but when he got the opportunity to help with the launch trailer, they spent the entire budget on the animation that would eventually make its way into the game as it's opening animation. #SonicNews #AX26 Webber reached out to Tyson Hesse, who he met at Comic Con Years later. Hesse said yes, and got it done with a small team of friends in four months.

Aaron Webber took a risk & started tweeting whatever he wanted to push back & change the discourse. #SonicNews #AX26 He thought he might get fired, he didn't run any of it through Japan, but it worked. This was the first domino for what would trigger everything else down the road, including animation.

Years before Sonic Mania Adventures debuted, there had been an attempt to start an animated shorts initiative, but it didn't go anywhere because they were working on Sonic Boom. #SonicNews Chao were one of the characters they wanted to see in short form. Jasmine Hernandez didn't want that dream to die, so she kept pushing for them to be in shorts, which eventually led to Chao in Space and Chao Tales. Chao Tales had been pitched as a vertical video series, in a bid to reach new audiences.
