I often see Eritreans debating about “Who Rules the Red Sea”. The debate over who "rules" the Red Sea, I believe misses multiple points. In short: no one does, the waves do. The Red Sea as a high-sea is a shared commons, not a sovereign domain. A better question may be is: “Who uses it?” Under international maritime law, every nation has the right to navigate and utilize it freely. For Ethiopia, the pursuit of reliable Red Sea access is rooted in history and justice. Once a littoral state with direct coastline, Ethiopia lost that access through unfair circumstances. A routine visit by an AFRICOM commander to Ethiopia is suddenly spun by PP sycophants as some kind of endorsement for their dreams of sea access and other grandiose ambitions. The AFRICOM General has a clearly defined mandate, which he laid out in the interview he gave during his first visit after being appointed Commander. He has now landed in #Hargeisa, #Somaliland about an hour ago, and he will deliver the same message there as well: he is in the region to ensure the safety and security of Americans — nothing more, nothing less.

Today, during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye to Ukraine we discussed diplomacy, all the real opportunities that exist and those that must be created. I also had a good meeting with U.S. Senators Graham and Blumenthal. I thank them for their support of Ukraine, their support for diplomacy, and their efforts to bring moral clarity to the situation. It was Russia that started this war. It is Russia that must stop the killings and the destruction of lives. It is very important that this is voiced in the media, in Congress, and in all the world’s influential offices. If Russia continues to speak in the language of ultimatums, if it tries to blackmail the world with the continuation of war, it must receive a strong response — a response from the United States, from Europe, and from everyone around the world who wants peace and who has declared their support for a ceasefire and for diplomacy.
