The truth about land acknowledgments — and why it's time to end them Land acknowledgments have become one of the most common political rituals in Canada. They're recited in government offices, universities, legislative chambers, police press conferences, and even before the national anthem during children's school performances. We're told they're harmless. We're told they're simply about teaching Indigenous history. But as I explore in this report, many Canadians see them very differently. For starters, the history behind many modern land acknowledgments is often oversimplified. Long before European settlement, Indigenous nations fought wars, displaced rivals, expanded territories, controlled trade routes, and, in some cases, even practiced slavery. The Iroquois Confederacy displaced rival nations during the Beaver Wars. The Tlingit expanded their influence through warfare. The Haida famously took captives from neighbouring peoples as slaves. Yet no reasonable person would argue that modern Indigenous Canadians should be burdened with inherited guilt, or that their connection to Canada is weakened because of what their ancestors did centuries ago. And yet non-Indigenous Canadians are increasingly expected to sit through, repeat, or affirm statements suggesting they occupy "stolen" land and possess a lesser claim to the country they call home. Some are even being punished for speaking out against such compulsion. Lara Yates, a B.C. mother of four, was banned from her child's school after speaking out against a land acknowledgment before a school performance. Catherine Kronas, an Ontario parent council member, was suspended from her duties for refusing to participate in one. And four UBC professors have gone so far as to take legal action against the publicly funded university's sweeping use of land acknowledgments, arguing that the rituals force faculty and students to conform to the institution's political views. The concerns don't end there. Some Canadians oppose land acknowledgments because they believe they promote a form of racism, one that assigns moral guilt, victimhood, legitimacy, or authority based not on individual character, but on ancestry. And with elected officials such as BC NDP MLA Rohini Aroura, using legislature time to label the majority of her constituents “settlers” and “colonizers,” it’s no surprise that many Canadians feel that land acknowledgments have become about racial division rather than reconciliation. And with Aboriginal title agreements and court decisions raising legitimate concerns about property rights in Canada, land acknowledgments declaring Canadians to be living on "stolen" or "unceded" land go far beyond symbolic statements and now carry political and legal risk. Enough is enough. Americans are becoming wide awake “Dearborn, Michigan is the perfect case study about why Islam is not compatible with American society or civilization at large. Did Dearborn become a beacon of light and hope? Is it full of charity and people looking out for one another in peace and coexistence and, oh my gosh, the amount of doctors and lawyers? No. Dearborn, Michigan is absolutely disgusting. It is filled with crime, it is filled with poverty, and it is filled with American citizens being told that if they do not want to bow down to the Islamization of America, then they need to get the hell out, even being told that by their own politicians. They feel like Islam can rule over everything there, right? They loudly play their call to prayer and if you have a problem with it, despite the fact that it legally breaks city ordinance with how loud it is, then you're told to leave and that you need to be quiet and that you just need to submit to their way of living. If you think that this is a coincidence, if you think that they have any intention of stopping there, then you are deluding yourself. These people are extremely violent. They don't want open discourse. They don't want open dialogue about religion. We have seen people waving swastikas and chanting "Kill the Jews!" If these were white nationalists, they would not be tolerated. So why do you tolerate these Islamists? These quasi-terrorists pose a threat to the security of your citizens and endanger the security of your country. As politicians, you have a responsibility to put your citizens first. It is particularly hypocritical that a Member of the European Parliament European Parliament, Rasmus Nordqvist from Denmark, as well as Vula Tsetsi from Greece, co-chair of the European Greens, are present this evening in Novi Sad at violent protests. These are people who lecture us every day about the rule of law and democracy - yet here they are, attending an unreported, illegal gathering which, in their own countries, would not be permitted. They are not only supporting but also participating in illegal gatherings in Serbia! They speak about the rule of law while promoting anarchy. It will be particularly interesting to see whether they will inform Brussels about the violence of the blockades that all of Serbia is, once again, witnessing tonight. Are these the “peaceful protests” they talk about and support? Attacks on the Faculty of Philosophy, the burning of institutions, assaults on the police? Will they report that to Brussels? Report about the “peaceful protests” attended by people with balaclavas, helmets, clubs, pyrotechnics, stones? Everything that is forbidden in their own countries - precisely because of the rule of law - they are supporting in Serbia: unreported gatherings and violence. Anything goes, as long as the goal is to topple an independent, free, and stable Serbia. Enough with the lies - the truth is blatantly obvious.

President Trump is familiar with Kurdish militias and understands them in much the same way many Iranians do. These groups are not “angels,” and they do not enjoy broad popularity in Kurdish regions of Iran. I hope the President hear the voices of Iranians inside the country and in the diaspora. We understand what best serves the interests of Iranians, Americans, and regional stability. Iranians are not naïve; we know that returning to the rule of law is essential. Ultimately, it is about the law and the legitimate authority who upholds it. Many believe that the de jure Shah of Iran in exile, represents the only legitimate figure who holds their support and trust. Please consider the threats these Kurdish parties pose to Kurdish citizens living in Iran and speak openly about them on social media. As you once said, they are “no angels” but for a reason. President Trump is familiar with Kurdish militias and understands them in much the same way many Iranians do. These groups are not “angels,” and they do not enjoy broad popularity in Kurdish regions of Iran. They were involved in violent armed conflicts against rival Kurdish factions in the past and have been accused of committing war crimes during those conflicts. Many Iranians are aware of their separatist intentions and would not tolerate any attempt to partition Iran. i If people see any alliance between the U.S. or Israeli military and these Kurdish militant groups, many may choose neutrality. Iranians will not replace one terrorist threat with another. We also know that the MEK has historically maintained close ties with some separatist groups. I hope the President hear the voices of Iranians inside the country and in the diaspora. We understand what best serves the interests of Iranians, Americans, and regional stability. Iranians are not naïve; we know that returning to the rule of law is essential. Ultimately, it is about the law and the legitimate authority who upholds it. Many believe that the de jure Shah of Iran in exile, represents the only legitimate figure who holds their support and trust. Please consider the threats these Kurdish parties pose to Kurdish citizens living in Iran and speak openly about them on social media. As you once said, they are “no angels” but for a reason.
