I really love this part of the interview. It shows how much effort they’ve put in, how much they’ve grown, and how they still genuinely want to keep learning about each other. MC: Has it taken you a long time to get to where you are now? Have there been any conflicts between you? What kind? Gawin : Yeah, there have. Joss: I think the conflicts mostly come from differences in lifestyle and personality. When you spend a lot of time together, you’re bound to see both the good and the bad sides. Like me… I’ve said this before, but my energy tends to push, while his is more pull. I’m the type who always wants to do this, do that, go here, go there. I’m always inviting him to do things. Sometimes, I end up stepping into his space a bit too much. And Gawin is like… introvert level 900. MC: Level 900? Joss: Honestly, more like 999. He needs to go home and recharge, spend time on his own. But sometimes I feel like there are so many things I want him to do with me, so I might invite him a bit too much. And when he doesn’t respond or join in, because he needs to recharge, I end up feeling a certain way. MC: Like upset? Joss: Yeah. But in the end, I have to reflect on myself too. Like, am I pushing him too much? I have friends who help me understand that even if I think what I’m offering is good, he’s the one who gets to decide whether it’s good for him or not. He has to choose for himself. So I think it’s better for me to just give him space. If he wants to join, he can come in on his own. But it’s still a process, we’re still learning about each other. I feel like this part of my life (being ML) will definitely be one of those memories that comes back, cuz it’s such a huge and important part of my life. And i believe that no matter where we are in the future, whether it’s 5, 10, or even 20 years from now, we’ll still have this relationship. We’ll still be important people in each other’s lives, people who are close to each other and who have been work partners for so long. 💚: Even if, say, in the future we don’t have as many jobs together, and we might meet or work with other people, i think we’ll still look at each other and think, “We’ve worked together for such a long time.” Whether we’re friends, colleagues, or whatever we end up being, we’ll still remember each other cuz we’ve spent so many years together. 💖: Who knows, maybe when i’m 40 or 50, i’ll go to a cafe owned by P’Milk.😹 It could be something completely unexpected that i can’t even imagine right now. “Alright guys, I was telling you… I’ve been a bit absent these past few days because, as you know, I was with Scarlett, so we spent a bit more time just for ourselves. But we didn’t miss the live at Vera’s place and Margarida and Tillie were there too. I hope you liked that livestream, it was a bit crazy, but at least we got to have a few laughs together. I’ve come back to my homeland—very cute, yeah. And yeah, now I’m here with you, all fresh, clean, and smelling nice after this morning’s flight, which was a disaster. Not only was it delayed by 45 minutes, but then there were another 40 minutes waiting in line…. And then another 40 minutes in line to get through passport control. Passport control, guys. Insane. I think there were multiple flights all at once—at some point nothing made sense anymore. People were cutting in line, pushing through—I mean, what even… just one line for passports. I understand people who had connections, but just say it, don’t just shove your way through, you know? You get me? You get me? Anyway, yeah guys, in the end we made it. I got back home, and yeah… me and Scar will see each other in a month—or honestly, I don’t even know when exactly. It’s a long-distance relationship, so it’s not like we’ll see each other every day or be together constantly. We knew that from the start, for sure. But sometimes it’s even nicer like this, because when you meet again you have so much more to share. But yeah, we’ll find a way to see each other—hopefully as soon as possible. And it’s okay like this. We don’t like things to be easy… at least, I don’t.

It might not be that different from the roles we played in our earlier projects, but as we’ve grown up, we’ve started to see more of the charm in the characters we play and understand them better. 🎤: So you’ve basically become each other’s safe zone now? 💚: Definitely. We’re definitely each other’s safe zone. But whenever i get into character, let’s say out of 10, maybe i can only go to a 5. I mean, i can only immerse myself in the character to a certain extent cuz i still have to hold myself back a little too (to respect 💖). 💖: I’m very chill. But if there’s a time when i feel really tense & awkward, it would have to be during 23.5. It’s just like what P’Milk said, it comes with age. As we’ve done more series and worked together more, we’ve gotten used to each other. We know each other’s timing and camera angles really well, so that makes us feel much more comfortable with each other. But if you ask whether i still get excited, i do. I get excited for every Q we shoot and every role we’re given. But we’ve learned how to control it.

Robert De Niro originally wanted to play Max Cherry in Jackie Brown, the role that eventually went to Robert Forster. However, Quentin Tarantino had written the role with Forster in mind and had already promised him the part. Tarantino explains… “I wrote Jackie Brown, and I decided at some point in writing the script that Robert Forster would be terrific as Max Cherry. So, while I’m still writing the script, I bump into Robert Forster - we go to the same coffee shop. ….so I decided I’m gonna give him the part, because I figure, look, this would be a big, big deal part. So if I don’t give him the part, then once I’m done with it and it gets out in the town, then it’s gonna be Gene Hackman and Paul Newman and people like that, and it would be pretty hard to say no to. But if I just give him the part right now, I’ve got the juice to get it through, and now I can’t take it back because I wouldn’t be a man of my word. So to lock myself into that decision, I give it to him before I finish writing it. And then now comes the time to do it. Robert De Niro reads it, and he wants to be in it, but he wants to play Max. And I go, “Well, look, you would be a fantastic Max, but I’ve already given that to Robert Forster, and I’m a man of my word. I can’t take it back.” Now, De Niro is very much a man of his word, so he understands that. He gets that. And he’s just like, “Yeah, yeah. That’s just disappointing. It’s just regretful.” I go, “What?” “Well, just because, you know, you were thinking about him, so you wrote it for him. Maybe Bob (Robert Foster) could play Louis, the other guy.” So then I actually have Bob read Louis with me, and then read Max. And if that could work, maybe that could work. But no, everything that made him perfect for Max made him wrong for Louis. And so I get on the phone with De Niro — and I go, “Yeah, you know, I explored that. But no, everything about him that makes him perfect for Max makes him wrong to play this ex-convict guy.” And he goes, “Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that, I get that, I get that. Okay, so tell me about this Louis character.” And I go, “You would consider playing Louis?” “Yeah, it’s a good character. It’s a good movie. I wanna be part of it. It’s a good character. I wanted the other character, but yeah, this is a good character. I’d be happy to play it.” I go, “Well, you didn’t let me know that before.” He goes, “Well, I didn’t wanna let you off the hook. I wanted you on the hook. But now if that ship has sailed, then let’s talk about Louis.” And then it was a done deal.”
