I don't share this often. But I think it matters. The shame I carried into my adult life - the fear of being seen, the panic when a camera pointed at me, the belief that visibility meant punishment, well, it didn't come from nowhere. It came from a grandmother who attached shame to my body before I even understood what that meant. It came from a boy at school who weaponized my sexuality because I wouldn't give him attention. None of it was true. But my brain encoded it as truth. And it ran my life by it for years. The rules that are limiting you right now, most of them were written by someone else's pain, handed to you before you had the tools to question them. You get to question them now. I have taken my time to listen to Davido’s verse on the FIFA World Cup song, No Place Like Home. All I can say is that Davido isn’t a creative artist. His verse on the song is weak and there’s nothing new about it. We’ve heard all those lyrics before. We’ve heard everything they’re singing about before. There’s nothing fresh or unique. The song has no replay value. It’s one of those songs people will listen to once and move on from because there’s nothing that makes you want to go back and play it again. If I should rate the song, I’ll give it 2/10, and that’s only because of the beat. As for the lyrics, 0/10. No offense.
