Just an absolutely bonkers story - and one I felt I had to cover properly. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to do it justice, and ultimately decided the best way was to let the fans of the two clubs involved tell it themselves. The turnaround on this one has been pretty crazy. I only got in touch with the guys involved a little over 24 hours ago, and they were absolutely incredible - so honest, thoughtful, and articulate as they walked through every layer of this fascinating scandal. Troy, the city that launched the whole poem, was built at Aït Benhaddou, an 11th-century fortified village outside Ouarzazate that's stood in for ancient cities in Gladiator and Game of Thrones long before Nolan got there. The Trojan Horse and Odysseus's launch back to Ithaca were shot on Essaouira's Atlantic coast, an ocean Homer never wrote about, standing in for a Mediterranean he did. What an odd loop- a Bronze Age Greek story, filmed on a North African coastline, to be watched by an American audience who'll never set foot in the actual Aegean.
