In October alone, 54,000 patients waited more than 12 hours on a trolley in A&E corridors. Yet at the very same time, the NHS is turning away around 13 fully qualified doctors for every single A&E training job. The reason is simple. The Government has capped specialty training posts, meaning doctors are being blocked from training to become the consultants and GPs of the future. This year, around 40,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 training jobs. These are highly qualified, dedicated doctors who want to work in the NHS, but a broken system is pushing them into unemployment or out of the NHS altogether. That is why resident doctors are on strike and why we are re-balloting: to fix the jobs crisis, address pay erosion, and retain doctors in the NHS. Rather than engaging seriously with the The BMA, the Health Secretary has focused on rhetoric instead of solutions. What patients and doctors need now is a credible plan to train and retain the doctors the NHS so clearly needs.

#WATCH | Draft UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment & Promotion of Teachers and Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2025 released. UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar says, "Faculty members are the backbone of our universities and colleges. So, when we select and promote them, we need to evaluate them holistically. In the earlier regulations, we were driven by quantitative evaluation such as the academic performance indicators. Whereas, in the new regulations that we are bringing out in the draft regulations, there are many opportunities that we are creating to the faculty members. Earlier, if somebody had an undergraduate degree and PhD, they were not eligible to be appointed but now these new regulations provide that opportunity. So, there are 3 qualifications that we are providing for the new entrance into the universities and colleges. Those with undergraduate degree and PhD or a master's degree and PhD can apply without writing the UGC-NET. But those candidates who have a master's degree in non-professional programs such as Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Sciences have to clear UCG-NET to be eligible to become Assistant Professors. But candidates who have an engineering master's degree, such as ME and MTech, they don't need to write UGC-NET and they can directly apply for Assistant Professor positions in Engineering and technology programs..."

Everything is wrong with the system we operate here in Nigeria: This is what Speed Darlington says in this video: 1) Nobody from your village or your uncle is after your success. 2) Lack of opportunity is your problem, and your government has refused to create jobs for young people. 3) There aren’t enough jobs, and the available ones are reserved for the elites and their children. 4) Every job in Nigeria requires a degree certificate. You need a degree to become a bank teller in Nigerian banks or even a bike delivery rider for companies like FedEx. What happens to those who weren’t privileged to attend school? 5) In other developed countries, you don’t need a degree to work at Amazon, FedEx, etc. Your SSCE is enough to get something doing that pays more than what doctors are paid in Nigeria. 6) Nigerian youths need to wake up and reject APC; their future and that of their unborn children is at risk.
