I went to the largest Gold and silver retail market in the world on the weekend in ShuiBei China. And at least 2 Jewelry makers confirmed to me that they now have to pay a PREMIUM just to get their hands on bricks of silver gold and platinum. They used to just pay spot SGE price but starting about 6 weeks ago even they have to pay a premium! For example silver was about 17 yuan ($75.5) per gram spot price, but the jewelry makers have to buy for around 19 Yuan ($84.4)and then sell it on for 22 yuan ($97.74) to the public. I am talking about these 1kg silver bars and it’s NOT even jewelry yet! They add a few more Yuan per gram on top for silver jewelry depending on how intricate the craftsmanship was. I did get a call afterwards offering me a discount from the counter price, 5 one kilo silver bars at 20yuan ($88.85). Gold only had a 1-2% premium, but platinum 1Kg bars were selling for 525yuan, about $2332. Remember I went on the weekend so they were using last Friday’s spot price which was around $2130. Overall it does feel like that precious metals market was much tighter than usual, because the merchants now have to pay a premium just to get the silver gold and platinum bars. Just because your baby’s eyes are open doesn’t necessarily mean they’re awake. And the same holds true in reverse. Weird, right? During active (or REM) sleep it’s not uncommon for your baby to open their eyes for brief periods, to make noises, and to move their body actively. The (open eyes) phenomenon, known as psychological lagophthalmos, is common in newborns and may be attributable in part to immaturity of their central nervous system. The important thing here is not to be too quick to assume your little one has finished sleeping just because their eyes open. This video is a great example. Baby’s eyes are partially open, but he is in the midst active sleep (which comprises half or more of each newborn sleep cycle). Likewise, there are situations where your child may appear to be asleep, but isn’t. Particularly in bright, noisy, or otherwise overstimulating environments your child may feign sleep (when they are feeling overwhelmed) as a sort of defense mechanism. This is called habituation. And while it may look like sleep it does not provide the same restorative benefits - and often concludes with prolonged periods of crying as a sort of stress relief. Long story short, you can’t always judge your baby’s level of alertness from their eyes alone - so be sensitive and observant in both circumstances. Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11 called Low Latency Profile that gives a short boost to your CPU for 1 to 3 seconds when you open apps or menus. Early tests show Microsoft apps like Edge and Outlook open up to 40% faster, while the Start menu and other menus can load up to 70% faster, with CPU use jumping high for a few seconds then dropping right back down. Microsoft says this is normal because Apple does it in macOS and Linux, plus phones use the same type of quick CPU boosts for better speed.
