Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. This month I'll be introducing an affordability package at the Board of Supervisors. Legislation that will both make it easier to build more housing for new renters to live in, as well as advance rental transparency and eviction protections to make it easier for existing renters to stay here. This legislation cracks down on Wall Street landlords, gives renters a way to report problems, reinvests penalties back into affordable housing, and holds bad actors accountable. This will be a major step forward for Nevada families.
