During a New York State Legislative budget hearing on transportation, NY Sen. Mario Mattera who represents the 2nd District in Long Island, pressed MTA Chair & CEO Janno Lieber about the origin of a contract for subway gate security guards from a company in Pennsylvania. After Mattera questioned the effectiveness of the program, Lieber claimed “it’s reduced fare evasion by 36%" at the stations they're placed in. Lieber also affirmed that the guards stationed at the gates are New York-based. The two began screaming at each other when Assembly Ways and Means Chair J. Gary Pretlow shouted “shut up" to end the argument.
