Also, what do you make of the president voting by mail, as the SAVE Act seems to stop voting by mail? Jeffries: We have made clear repeatedly that we support voter ID laws. Here in this country, elections are administered by states and localities, and each state and locality has the ability to determine what is the most appropriate form of voter ID that should be required for their citizens to participate in voting in that state. New York State has very strong voter ID laws, which I support, and which facilitate voting in a way that allows for maximum participation by citizens while, at the same time, ensuring that elections are free and fair. This is a states’ rights issue. What happened to the days when Republicans actually supported states’ rights? These people are phony, and the example right now, among many, is the fact that for years Donald Trump has been railing against voting by mail, only to turn around and vote by mail in the special election taking place today in Florida.

With elections every 4/5 years, some young people wait until they are 21/22 before they can vote in a general election. We also need to act to make sure that young people are registered to vote, whatever the age of voting becomes.
